The Dutchman escaped the sack in September – unlike former England boss Sam Allardyce – when he was caught up in the Telegraph’s football-bung scandal, with co-chairman Tony Fernandes and the rest of the board backing the former Burton boss who admitted to being “naïve” for thinking he could land £55,000 for an after-dinner speech.

That, however, was before the defeats to the Bees and Sheffield Wednesday and the mood around the club has taken a dip since.

Tim Sherwood endured a miserable time at Villa but could be back soon
Sherwood would offer a massive morale boost, if his brief no-nonsense spell in charge at Tottenham is anything to go by – but the ex-Villa coach might be put off by the peanuts Rangers are currently committed to shelling out on players.

Rangers are going through a massive transition from their money-haemorrhaging days of splurging Premier League wages on dud signings like Sandro, Ji Sung Park and Jose Bosingwa. With the new focus on landing tomorrow’s top-flight stars with League One money.

Sherwood and Ferdinand worked together at Tottenham’s academy, and then first team, where they sparked the career of England ace Harry Kane but there is no sign of that level of homegrown talent at the Hoops.

Ferdinand – the beloved former Rangers striker – needs to get his next big decision spot-on as previous appointment, Chis Ramsey, lasted just eight months as permanent boss and sections of the support are starting to ask how many chances the former goal-machine needs to get it right.

In Hasselbaink’s favour is Nottingham Forest’s poor run going in to the County Ground clash.

The relegation contenders have won just one league game since August and have lost their last three on the spin.

Former Rs manager Chris Ramsey with current QPR director of football Les Ferdinand and Tim Sherwood
Sherwood has been linked with the vacant post at Wolves but more experienced Championship bosses like Nigel Pearson and Paul Lambert are ahead of him.

The decision to axe Hasselbaink will not be as costly as most of QPR's previous mistakes as he is only on a rolling month-to-month contract.

I'm surprised he's not been mentioned yet already. I don't really like him but would be a bit of an antidote of the glum dour faced gaffer's we've had on the sidelines in recent years.

Unless of course it all goes pear -shaped when the expression on his face could curdle milk - a frequent occurrence at Villa last season

I don't think that it is right. A 12 month rolling contract surely.

We are so godawful to watch, can anyone replacing JFH really produce a worse spectacle or make a bigger pigs ear of team selection?

We don't know the notice period within that 12 month roolling contract. It might be 3 months for example.

Highly unlikely Croydon. I suspect he would have to be paid up for the year.
