Terry Butcher has left Newport County.....and rumour has linked John Sheridan to the job. Not quite local to Yorkshire....but no other offers have arisen.
Don't know Joe, he stopped our rot even if he was boring. Depending where you are in the league then boring can be a big improvement. I'm more shocked about the sacking of Butcher to be honest.
Seems odd that they think they will have a new manager before saturday's match v exeter (according to their OS). Almost like they had someone in mind before they sacked him. Also odd that the rest of the backroom staff have gone as well. Jason Turner (ex argyle general manager & football secretary) is now their CEO-could it be that he thinks JS and his merry men will do a job for them?. Maybe, but somehow I doubt it.
So....Sheridan's got the job.....Jason Turner who is CEO at Newport has obviously gone for what he knows. Talk of Sheridan getting Warren Feeney in from Ireland to help him. Looks like working close to Sheffield only works if you get a job offer.....but that wasn't happening. Another commutting job then for John Sheridan....you can only stay out of work for so long.....he will find it hard seeing Newport have been bought by the Trust.....probably no money to strengthen the squad.....will he get a few Plymouth fringe players on loan....will give them experience. Strange move really but a manager has got to work and pay the bills.
I don't think we have any fringe players plym. We have a very small squad already so anyone able to remotely get into the first 11 isn't going anywhere on loan. Remains to be seen if this Trust has any cash for the Manager at all. As far as I'm aware they didn't struggle for the money to take over exactly but I don't think it was overflowing the buckets. Their revenue isn't going to increase so if they couldn't buy before then why would anyone think they can get more in now. Have to be loans from above teams who are willing to pay the wages as well. Mind you with Sheridan he does like to give loanees a game and has a reputation for it. I think they will stand a chance of avoiding the Conference with Sheridan but it ain't going to be pretty. Not the type of football to entice the masses through the gates. Still, best of luck to him. I didn't like his style when he was here and was glad he left but I don't wish him ill and he did do a job for us despite everything.
A Fans Trust running the club might expect more interaction with the manager.....there could be a problem there....not Sheridans strongest suit.
To be honest I'd bet they'd settle for 3rd from bottom right now even if the Manager didn't ever speak to them at all. When and if they are safe then I'd expect them to be worried about his charisma but not until.
