I've said this a few times, and seem to be alone in my comments. But I just don't see a footballer in Shelvey. He is so error prone and has missed so many chances recently to score. Ok fair point, that he gets into the positions but he is so wasteful. His first touch is like Heskeys,

You are not alone. Can't see he has the ability to take us to another level. However, he does get in some decent positions and if he was lethal with his finishing then that would be enough. Yesterday he should have won the game for us, a finisher would have done but that's not him and he just seemed to be off the pace.

    First touch like Heskey? <doh>

Don't agree at all. Sorry, guys. I think Shelvey is a very decent prospect. Still very young and, finishing aside, was okay when he came on for Suso. Agree that he should have done better when he had that chance in the box, towards the end, but Suso didn't score either and he had chances, too.

You're being harsh on the lad. I've said before that he is in an awkward place - he is head and shoulders above reserve team level but he appears to be star struck in the first team. He will shine in a team without Gerrard and Suarez starting and we've seen that in the Europa League.

He is guilty of missing some great chances - he should have scored from Suarez's lay off and he should have done better with the header. HOWEVER, unlike others in the team, at least he got into those positions in the first place and I commend him for that. How many times in the first half did we see Suarez driving into the box, looking up only to find no one supporting?

He is still a very raw talent but a talent nonetheless.

He seems a little slow and needs to be sharper. He is young though and needs to be given time to develop.

I would say the opposite, his brain is good it's his technique and fitness that needs to improve.

    This season's stats

    Shelvey: 16 apps, 3 goals
    Gerrard: 16 apps, 2 goals.

Let's all slate the one who has the potential to grow and learn and not focus on the former great, who is clearly past his best as a first-team player.

You'll have seen far more of him than I have, so I'll bow to your knowledge.

Whenever I've seen him he looks like he's about to lose the plot, he's looks on the edge all the time. Positionally he doesn't look disciplined to me, which is why I made the headless chicken comment.

He's only young though, so he could make it, looks a far better prospect than Henderson tbf.

I think I am one of few people who think he is brilliant and should start ahead of Sahin. He has great movement and gets into the box all the time, yes he needs to practice his finishing a bit, but so does Suarez at times. He is physically very strong and gets around the pitch a lot. He does need to tone down his tackling though.

Firstly Shelvey should have doubled his tally yesterday. Secondly Gerrard would get more goals if he came on against tiring opposition <ok>

My big issues with Shelvey are his shooting's **** and he's playig very advanced. Needs to improve that area of his game.

He is undoubtedly a headless chicken when things aren't going well for the team (age is a factor in that in fairness).

He's a stroller. When you come off the bench for any period of time you need to provide "fresh legs" to compete with the oppositions tired legs. Shelvey comes on and looks like he's warming down.

Gerrard has been playing deep to cover Lucas, so he hasnt played in Shelvey's spot much.

I like Shelvey. His movement, energy, work rate and positioning are all fantastic. His finishing is inconsistent but it could be a confidence thing, like the rest of the squad.

I'm going to be patient with Shelvey. His tackling needs to improve, he needs to calm it a bit on the ball but I like his positioning & drive.

Enthusiasm channelled in the right direction.
