Starting to look a real player was one of our best couple of players in the 2 games v Wigan and Newcastle, and was again v Villa Had another good display tonight, has a bit of Alonso about him as well obvious comparison with Gerrard.Thought he was excellent when he sat in the " Alonso" pocket after Doni was sent off.Keeps the play moving nicely nearly always 1 and 2 touch, always looks as if he has time and space in possesion.Very classy player. For me he would defo start v Everton Another good Rafa signing
He should play or at least feature. Every time he plays he shows more composure. The talent to execute expansive passes/shots is clearly there.
Yeah he's bought some creativity in to our midfield since he's come back, I hope he gets a run of games seeing as he's playing well.
He's still got a long way to go as tonight proved, a few poor decisions in the final third and doesn't always put his head up but lots of promise in him. As mentioned above, he always seems to have time on the ball and when you have that ability, taking the time to look up for the right pass can come more easily. He also seems quite a driving force, chases down the ball and keeps it moving nicely. Neither a Gerrard type or an Alonso type, but somewhere inbetween. Nice rounded player imo with a big future for us. I wonder if he's staking a claim for a starting position alongside Lucas for next season...
It made me laugh when the co commentator crticised him for not noticing Bellamy, when he had a shot on goal,of course the co commentator Davie Proven failed to notice that Bellamy was BEHIND Shelvey, and unless Jonjo" Has in the back of his f**kin head" it would have been impossible to see Bellamy
Tbh, that kind of pass comes with playing week in, week out with the same players so that eventually, you almost know without looking that the player would be there. Can't really criticise that particular pass as the commentators did, when our team chops and changes so often. With the pace of Bellamy, it might have been worth a quick sidewards glance, but it was a something out of nothing oportunity anyway which developed from his own pressure. Not a biggie and it wasn't a game changer.
Ya he seem pretty cool on the ball and had some nice touches. How about Hendo at RB by the way? Sometimes you fall into a position. When he went to right back, he did a good job I thought and going forwarded provided energy and some pace. Weird game though haha.
I was thinking this the other day, when he first came to Liverpool there was a hint of the 'squad player' about him but given his chance i think he's looked decent for most of the games and pretty good more recently. Unfortunately for him i think he knows he's likely to be back on the bench when everyone is fit, but on form i don't think its deserved. Good, young, english player with lots of potential. Don't compare him with Gerrard though (no offense) give him another season or two and see what he develops into. What happened to Flanaghan though? Could have been sent off, caused the penalty and looked shakey. Terrible night for him, he's looked alright previously (though not as good as Kelly imo)
I rate Shelvey highly and is one of our best youngsters. As already mentioned above, he is composed, always in space and wants the ball! Has a lot of self-belief and confidence.
Flanno has to be careful as Robinson is starting to vie for a place in the first team. Shelvey is looking good though, his loan spells in the championship seem to have had an effect on him
Yea agree with most of the above - Shelvey starting to look like the real deal, definately hints of Gerrard there. He could and should have seen Bellamy though for a tap in.
Shelvey is not the finished article yet but hes getting there, he is imo a much better player than Adam and he can play as an attacking or holding midfielder. Doni getting sent off last night took him out of that role he was playing behind Carroll and he was looking dangerous in there. I have high hopes for Jonjo, thanks Charlton for the bargain
Shelvey has a lot to learn but i think he will get better, or learn more if he had Lucas sat next to him. I dont see many midfields being afraid of Shelvey and Spearing in the future... And thats your catch22 for me... Both should be given time to develop, learn the systems and ultimatley get Liverpool back into the top 4... I just dont see it with both of them... I do hope that Shelvey learns the positional sense of other players sooner rather than later... He seems to get into some good positions but his first instinct is to shoot from 25+ yards away than trying to feed in players or spread it wide... Spearing has got better with playing more and more but Lucas is far better in that role... It will be interesting to see which KD goes with... Me i would persist with Shelvey and when Lucas is fit use Spearing as cover or in a 2 man defensive role away from home... At least its good to see the youth coming through... We still need experience but that will come with in time with this lot...
He's always looked rash in challenges and a bit shakey, he's also nervous going forward and is really lightweight in shoulder to shoulder duels. He's nowhere close to being ready for the first 11 so it's no wonder he's third pick at this moment but we could do alot worse given the RB injuries. Kelly is far superior as a prospect though.
Played extremely well last night in both roles and i was surprised at how quickly he got up after getting a bootful of studs in the face. Good to see the gritty determination in the lad, hoping he gets more appearances ahead in the run in.
I think he is talking pecking order and bench. Kelly behind Johno and Robinson behind Enrique. no spot on the bench for flannagan. he had an absolute shocker last night. To be honest, Henderson did outstanding there!
Think he's been a bright spark in this poor run. The loan spell at Blackpool seems to have done him wonders - makes you wonder why we don't send more younger players out on loan to Championship / lower prem teams. I thought he was excellent playing just off Carroll in a similar role to that he played at Blackpool. Was maybe a bit selfish on a couple of occasions but that should improve with experience.
