6 players withdrawn from the squad for friendlies coming up inc. Henderson and Delph. Surely if Jonjo can't get called up by now he should call it time on his England career? Literally the only CM's are Livermore, Loftus Cheek and Dier

Jonjo hasn't exactly set the world alight for us of late. Why pick him over other workmanlike midfielders doing well for clubs punching above their weight (Dean Marney at Burnley? Tom Cleverly at Watford?)

Name an England midfielder, other than Shelvey, who passes the ball forwards? Answer, Jack Wilshere? That's about it. Both of them are probably not good enough for top level International football, but then again, most of the players we have at our disposal aren't. Worth a try at least.

Winks, Henderson, Dier etc etc are decent in a team of talented foreigners, but only pass sideways so England play dull, lethargic **** against even the most mediocre team.

I think we ahould set-up like Leicester in the big tournaments, counter-attacking with pacey players. Shelvey could hit a long pass to Vardy like.

Jack Cork got the nod. Not saying Shelvey deserves it, but Southgate appears to be a drunken lunatic.

I probably won't cancel any plans this weekend to watch England.

I think the England team is absolutely desperate for a player like him personally.

He has got proper quality and I get that sometimes he can be a bit frustrating but basically he is always looking to make something happen every time he gets the ball. That means that he can give it away too much which he needs to learn to cut out. It could be good for us because England will try to get him to play more posession based but he is still going to look to hurt the oppo with a killer ball regularly.

I suspect shelveys ban for racially abusing another player last season probably figures. Even so, some right ****e called up ahead of him

Had to Google who Jack Cork was.

I'm not expecting Shelvey to ever get called up. Like has been said, he has a guilty verdict for racial abuse hanging over him, plus the disciplinary issues and inconsistent form.

Think he could actually do quite well. His game is suited to Internationals. He would revel in the additional time and space you get.
He would have to cut out too many risky long balls although having said that Gerrard seemed to get away with it.

If we're that desperate for a midfielder that we're considering Shelvey then times must be really dire (no pun intended). He's a sh1t Gerrard

Agreed there are others who could do the job but surely Livermore, Cork can't be considered to be miles better than him. As someone else has said, can any of those play a pass to split the defense like Jonjo to split Brazil or Germany open? I don't think they can.

I get the feeling Southgate would rather turn to the Championship than Jonjo.

Jonjo is is one of a few English midfielders who invariably look to pass the ball forward as opposed to "safely" square or back or 2 yards. It's one of my reasons why I cut him some slack when considering his weaknesses.

To be fair if Shelvey got the call now it would have been ironic, think he's displaying his worst form in his time with us at the moment.
He will get in the team eventually providing none of the youngsters step up. Gets himself on form in time for the world cup and he'll walk into the midfield.
Where he'll no doubt proceed to literally walk into defeat.

Name me the players that will keep him out of getting in the England midfield. We've just called up Jack Cork.
And literally can't remember another time where virtually every pass he's done goes wrong so yeh, I think he's playing ****
