The visit to Hillsborough sees Swans' Manager Carlos Carvalhal return to his former club for the first time since his departure - mutually agreed - just 4 days before he was appointed to the Swansea hot seat until the end of the season. That surely will now be extended by the Swansea Board? His record of 14pts from a possible 21pts is a fantastic return, particularly when the Swans had picked up a measly 13pts from 20 games. Whilst Swansea were beating Burnley, Wednesday were drawing 1-1 at Barnsley when on-loan striker Ollie McBurnie equalised for the home side. Including their first meeting in 1925, the Swans and Wednesday have played each other on 27 occasions, with the Swans winning 5, drawing 10 and losing 12. The teams last played each other in March 2010 when the game finished 0-0 in a Championship game at the Liberty. The Swans team that day was: Dorus de Vries Angel Rangel Ashley Williams Alan Tate Leon Britton Tom Butler Mark Gower Darren Pratley Jazz Richards David Cotterill Craig Beattie Turning to next Saturday, given that Carlos will be determined to get one over his former team, I expect him to select a strong team and the boys will want to deliver for him. 2-1 to the Swans
I would hope to win it there, but I'd not be too downhearted if it went to replay - assuming we would win the replay. I do think we'll win this by 1 or 2 goals though. We would then be in the quarter finals of the FA Cup. Sheff Weds have only won 2 of their last 9 games. We are on a high at the moment, so keeping winning is a must. Come on Swans !!!
The team that started against Notts County in the home tie although I would be inclined to try Mulder in goal.
I am really undecided on this one on how we go. I have always been one for playing as strong as we can and trying to win every game as I believe winning breeds winning. But we have 3 massive games coming up after this one and they could define our season. So I think I am going with squad players for this hoping we can sneak it, but with CC going to his old club cant see him wanting to go there week and losing to them. To be honest I just don't know which way to go.
Carlos should know everything about this team as their past manager so leave it up to him as im sure he will select the right players to take care of things...
A dilema. Everything you wrote. If we are serious about keeping players fit it might be best to continue using second choice or out of position experiments. If we want to win we must play a strong team get the job done as easily as possible. Fighting for a win with half a team of first choice players could be counterproductive. Soft side ...............Mulder ..... Bartley Mawson Marić Roberts......Ki... King.............Clucas ......... ....... Carroll ......Abraham ...... James Give Ki, King & Clucas (as wing back) time together. Use Carroll as a floater Tammy needs game time so go for a little and large combination. Strong As we finished Saturday.
Premiership must come first, We dont want to be like Wigan and win the cup but relegated at the same time..
I think Carlos will stick to the system he has already used in the cup but is a two week break good for the players? Last season after missing this round of the cup we took just 4 points from the next 24 on offer. Generally, but not always, we have not performed well after mis season breaks.
As long as we get some youth involved (namely Dan James and Connor Roberts) we should be good to go. I’d like to see us try to get through but we shouldn’t start a strong first 11, too many injuries already to deal with!!
King and Andre Ayew are unavailable for the cup run. It's a shame they'll miss the two matches at Wembley
We should be too strong whatever team carlos puts out especially as he has recent inside knowledge of them...
Agreed Dai - but I'm pretty sure that the Wednesday players will want to put one over their old boss.... Hopefully, our players will want to do well for Carlos and they will do the business.
