Ok(ish) Team, weird bench with only one defender on it. Team news: Sheffield United v Man United UNITED XI Onana Dalot Maguire Evans Lindelof McTominay Amrabat Antony Fernandes (c) Rashford Hojlund Subs: Bayindir (GK), Varane, Eriksen, Hannibal, Mount, van de Beek, Garnacho, Martial, Pellistri.
Any Yorkshire side with a manger called Heckingbottom has every right to stay up, but I smell a goal-fest for us tonight.
10 minutes gone. This is an everage Sheff United side lacking in quality. And I'm genuinely struggling to see what exactly is our style of football? Does anyone know? What exactly are we trying to do with the ball? There's no identity. We get possession momentarily and it's literally just boot it anywhere and to anyone. This is embarrassing.
I don't even blame him. Look at the clearance. Straight to a Sheff Utd player. Who then plays it forward for the cross. We've been like that all game. No composure, no tactics, no game plan. It'll get masked by the handball but really the problems in this game are far worse.
Maybe they need to introduce the idea of playing through the lines in Holland? Van Gaal and now ETH seem to think it doesn't exist.
We might be lucky enough to scavenge a draw against a side that hasn't won a game all season - progress is tangible, top of the PL at Christmas must be the target.
That 45 mins is as bad as anything under Solskjaer. I don't care about the result if the performance was good. The way I see it, it's the performances that build something long term. What exactly are we building here? Fck all. Ten Hag needs to start earning his money bcos this is ****e and it's been ****e for 5/6 months in fairness.
Well this is my first ever match thread and almost certainly my last. In over 60 years of watching us i think that is the most pathetic half of football i have ever seen. No taking players on, no fast (or even slow) interplay, no effort and no heart. We have a major problem and it needs sorting fast.
Can you see any tactics, any strategy, what exactly is our attacking style of play? Because I genuinely cannot see any. When we actually manage to keep the ball for longer than 2 passes (which is rare) the ball goes to the right wing, then back, across to the left then out to the left wing. Ad infinitum. Why don't we ever play quick through balls down the middle?
Exactly, we are playing every ball from the back or midfield straight to the wings in the hope that the fast lads will produce something yet not even bothering to get into the box in case they do. Can you think of a single passing move between players that took us up the pitch? have you seen a man run withe the ball and take players on? ****ing pathetic and terrified.
The soul of the club seems to be lost - we have the players who can do the job, we have a manager with proven talent and potential - yet this season, there seems to be an almost tangible disconnect between the two. I can't imagine that is solely down to Sancho, the Greenwood situation appears to have been resolved amicably, Antony is back after an understandable time out, so I'm ****ed if I know what the hell is going on. Our 24th choice striker hasn't a goal to his name in the PL, our new keeper is a ****ing clown and Mount is sitting on the bench - who decided to buy who, and why and why aren't the likes of Rashford pulling their weight - so many issues that stink of problems in the dressing room .
Btw on this, agree. I alluded to it earlier. I'm not even sure if he hasn't lost the dressing room. Maybe an overreaction but I don't see them playing for him.
Why the fck are we so keen for the ball to go out for a throw in. It's happened a few times now. Against Sheff Utd ffs.
