Shearer in '96 - What Carroll missed out on

    At 30 seconds you can see the kind of support this man received. He was (and still is) a local Geordie hero. I don't think any other club in this country would idolise a player in such a manner, and Carroll completely threw that away in the pursuit of money.

    I don't like to make another thread about him, but I just wanted to share this video and make that point.

    the thing is, its two different attitudes, carroll was a local lad but he never conducted himself like shearer did, shearer was a role model on and off the field for newcastle and england, he earned his way to the top, carroll like rooney was offered too much too soon, im not saying he'll pull a francais jeffers (tho that would be a proper funny) but he wont be idolised as much as he was here and i wouldnt b suprised if one day he comes out and says he regretted leaving us wether he was pushed or wanted more money

    I take comfort from it, really. You can tell by that video that Shearer was in a completely different league to Carroll in-terms of attitude and passion. I don't think Mr.Judas could have ever been a true number 9 hero like Shearer - even if he had stayed.

    Just read on twitter than Liverpool have paid 30m of the money already (no installments), and we have added a 25% sell on clause! Sounds a bit better now.
