http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...oss-poised-to-sign-new-six-year-contract.html Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross is poised to sign a new six-year contract next week. Shawcross, an England international and club captain, has been in further talks over the last few days and is expected to agree terms after the Premier League game with Fulham on Saturday. Stoke began negotiations with the 25 year-old in the summer but have stepped up their bid to retain him this week and are now confident of securing his future. Shawcross has emerged as a possible target for Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and QPR over the last 12 months, earning his first England cap in the friendly against Sweden last week. Shawcross had 18 months remaining on his current contract but is now set to stay at the Britannia Stadium into his 30s by signing a lucrative, long-term deal. Tony Pulis, the Stoke manager, said: 'It is a natural progression for every sportsman to play at the top level, but what we want to do is ensure we have him for the rest of his career because we're really happy with him." Shawcross was a £1 million signing from United in January 2008 and has established a reputation as one of the best young centre-halves in the country.
Great move, realistically he won't spend the rest of his career here but at least this will ensure we get a good fee for him.
To be honest I think his England debut will have put a few interested parties off now and we will maybe keep him come January!
Waddo just cause Ibrahimovic pushed him and run onto the ball beyond and scored wont taint........ a top CH that he is becoming in the prem league .. ready made for top 4 but i think that if he signs a 6 yr contact that means hes just payin stoke back .. quite clearly it puts him safe but also adds millions to his value TOP MAN !
If Pulis can get this done then fair play, but it wouldn't surprise me if Shawx at least holds off until after the January window to give himself a better negotiating stance if someone come in for him!
I appreciate that this deal reflects our wage structure, but I cant see this fending off a club if they are serioulst interested! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2238247/Ryan-Shawcross-close-signing-new-deal.html I dont understand why he would sign a flat rate deal over that length, with inflation he would be a low earner at the end of it!
Smithers - you and your freudian slips mate - £45 K per week a low earner!!!!! (Yea I know in comparison with.........................)
'This is Stafforshire' email received today says 'that Shawcross is signing.' Can not find anything on the Stoke site to confirm. It would be great news in my view.
Cannnot see shawcross going anywhere to be honest he loves it here and unless we go down which is unlikely he will stay.
