QPR and Stoke lead SWP chase
Winger subject of fresh bids from Premier League duo

Sky Sports sources understand Stoke and Queens Park Rangers have lodged formal bids for Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips.

The 29-year-old, who moved back to City in 2008 after a mixed time at Chelsea, is surplus to Roberto Mancini's requirements.

Bolton and Wigan are also interested in his services, but the Potters and QPR are now believed to be leading the race after talks with the Trotters broke down.

Clubs from Italy, Spain and France have also been linked, but Wright-Phillips is thought to be keen on a return to West London with Neil Warnock's side.

Wright-Phillips, who has won 36 caps for England, featured just 18 times for City last season, the majority of which came in the Europa League.

Looks like he prefers London to sunny stoke! Whilst he is an excellent player (and we do need wing cover) I'm not sure he would be willing to play back up to our wingers! If thast the case - where woudl he play and wouldn't we be better looking at CM as a priority? I've just seen that Spurs have opened talks with Parker - not that I think we would have ever got him but another good CM missed out on.

I wonder if it is a wage thing, Warnock or the attraction or London?

Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips is to hold talks with three clubs - one of them QPR - over a possible transfer, his agent Wayne Lindsay confirms to the Press Association.

Well, If QPR have money to burn, so be it!
Who mentioned Jeo Ledley on another thread?
    Barton, I wasn't bothered anyway.

SWP WILL go to London, nothing more certain and he would not be back up to Pennant and Ringtone.. Which, is probabley one of the reasons why we won't sign him.
So many names going around, I just wish it was September..

Ric well said, don't pay OTT Tony we don't need too! Look at other player's. I've read somewhere than we're interested in a winger name is Ainsworth?
From the lower leagues.. why not look at Jon Walters <ok>

Fact is both the club and the city arent attractive enough to "big name" players unnless they have issues or they are looking for a payday on there final contact in football. TP has a good record of signing people and getting the best out of them , big mardy names like SWP dont fit the stoke bill as he would divide the dressing room just like beattie did.

Rockape fair comments mate and I totally agree. I was only thinking this yesterday about the Barton fiasco and his choice to go QPR an unestablished prem outfit over Stoke and the reluctance of Parker and Cole to leave London for Stoke. Let's be honest I know it's all about money but also Cole is saying he didn't leave for family reasons. I know if I said to my wife do you want to live in London she would jump at it so you can understand why some players don't fancy coming to Stoke and the city is not as alluring as the capital.

    Morning Rock Ape,

Re geographics, Bolton is not the most attractive part of the world is it?

Do you think it might be something to do with:

    1. Our image
    2. Our tactics
    3. Our manager
    4. Our wage structure

    Or all four.

Rock Ape is a Villa fan,
At least that's what is profile say's...
    Is this a WUM alert?
No offence Rock Ape but... Brum isn't London or Las Vegas I know cos my daughter works at B.C.Hospital Staff Nurse
ONE reason The MONEY. So would I given the chance.

I would work in Siberia for x thousands a week so the fact that Stoke is not London doesn't really wash with me.
London is fine, if you earm funny money so is Staffordshhire. Ask Phil Taylor!

And Barton didn't look too happy at the Wigan game yesterday, his choice so we move on from that.

I would have Tuncay over Barton - not sure about Parker - close call.

    Jonny Wilkinson or Phil Bennet
    JPR or Jason Robinson

    Marmite or Vegemite

    Tea or Coffee
