Right folks, we are now approaching the sharp end of the season and I've been looking at our remaining fixtures to try and work out as to whether or not we really do have a realistic chance of survival or not. On paper we should stay up but I still reckon it's going to be mighty close. Anyway, I've done four possible permutations of results and even if we end up with my worst set of possible results, (column four) we would finish on 37 points. Is that enough for survival ? It might be, but I wouldn't take 37 points right now, would you? Sunderland.................(A).......D........L.........W..........L Wigan........................(A)......W........D..........L..........L Swansea....................(H).......D........D.........W..........D Arsenal......................(A).......L.........L..........L..........L Reading......................(H)......W........W.........D..........D Stoke.........................(A)......D.........L..........L..........L Aston Villa...................(H)......D.........D.........W..........D WBA...........................(H)......D.........D..........L..........D Man City.....................(A).......L.........L..........L...........L --------------------------------------------------------- SUB TOTAL...........................11.........7.........10..........4 GRAND TOTAL........................44........40........43.........37 I do this every year and there's always a surpise result or two so it's virtually impossible to predict the total amount of points we will actually finish on. Other than the Arsenal and Man City games which I reckon are definite defeats it is so hard to predict. I reckon at the end of the day we will just about do enough to retain our EPL status. Squeaky bum time indeed
Personally I don´t think it will be in the slightest bit close, as with all end of seasons, it has just as much to do with who other teams meet and how they fare, as much as it has to do with our results. If you actuallty take a good look at the bottom four´s remaining fixtures, I think Reading will be hard pressed to reach 30 pts, QPR lucky if they get to 32/33, and Wigan and A. Villa possibly could reach 36 pts, all of which puts in a very favourable position. We´ll be fine without even having to break too much sweat.

After reading it twice rbf, my confidence is now sky high! The double posting is a software glitch. I put a post on the technical help thread about how to avoid it.
Just to clarify, when I say that I don´t think it will be in slightest bit close, I´m referring to losing our Prem. League staus, I´m not disputing that our final points total may well be quite close to whoever finishes 18 th, but realistically I can see us getting between 8 and 11/12 pts yet this season, and if that´s the case, there ought to be quite a bit of elbow room down to the basement.
I think you may be interpreting my post incorrectly Beef. 37 points I reckon is the absolute minimum we will get and that's if we have a collapse of epic proportions. I know it probably won't happen but you never know, that's the point
