    We have been talking about real targets for us this summer and I really think this lad would fit in!
    Never stops moving a little bit like hernandez
    And we're lacking a quick nippy lil striker whos a good finisher!
    This bloke could fit the bill
    If reading don't go up 5mil and it could seal a cracking deal
    Thoughts?

    Rather have Shane Long for £5 million than Bothroyd or Elmander on a free.

    If we did only play one up front next season then Best, Long, another new striker and either Shola or Lover as back up and I'll be happy.

    I've been saying that for ages, but some of our fans still have snobbish attitude to Irish players, rather than some foreign players who never fit in. Who would you prefer? Roy Keane, of Cobh Ramblers; Kevin Doyle and Shane Long of Cork; Seamus Coleman of Sligo Rovers OR Xisco; Luque; Boumsong??

    Xisco luque and boumsong any day great banter!
    But no i like long looks like a cracking player just really impressed with both his movement and work rate!
    Would do a great job for us and would replace loverman!

    Let's see..

    Better than Ranger? Yes(potentially Ranger can be better though).
    Better than Lovenkrands? Yes!
    Better than Ameobi? YES!!!
    Better than Best? Mmm.. not sure.

    No, no for me unless we get him at a cheap price. Maybe offer Smith, Perch, Raylor? in exchange? or one of Lovenkrands/Ameobi?

    I dont think it is anything against the Irish. Look at it like this Loven, Ameobi, Chopra etc have done great in the Championship, yet never set the PL alight. I think thats the reason why people are comprehensive about signing him.

    Yeah don't think it's the Irishness (I'm a fan of the Irish actually, know a few people from there), just the fact he's (relatively) unheard, 24 and still in the championship.

    Long looks a class player. If Readin don't go up, then put a bid in, IF we don't sign another striker (Gameiro, Sigthorsson etc.).

    Not sure if he is better than Best or not. We'll have to see.

    Definately isn't relatively unheard of imo... Played 2 full seasons in the Premiership when he was only 19-21, capped 19 times for RoI with 6 goals.

    Not worried that he's played his football in the Championship, I'd rate it higher than most top tier European leagues.

    I'd definately sign him, he's just hitting peak form and will only improve by joining us imo.

    If he isn't better than our current best striker BEST(Leon), then I'll rather we stayed away.

    Gamiero, Sow, Ba, etc, are the strikers I'm talking about that will take us forward(My personal one would be Gamiero).
