Doing what he was bought for, we should have got a forward or a big loan player in the transfer window , big mistake not to splash out imo
Scocco or a few bob more for Long. Hull would have gone down but they bought two good forwards in the January.
We should have been in for Long, we knew his goals per game wasn't great but everyone that's ever seen him knows his movement and workrate make him a ****ing menace. Too late to worry about it now though, we just have to sit & hope. You do wonder about the alleged attitude issues of Wickham when we STILL see fit to loan him out in this dire time.
Personally couldn't give a toss about his attitude as long as he does it on the pitch and IMO he certainly couldn't do any worse than what's been tried with DG & Jozy for about 30 games now.
A little harsh to say we'd have gone down without them. The players Bruce brought in during the summer were responsible for us hovering between 11th-13th for the first 4 months. I agree that've given us an added presence up front but we were going ok without them... McGregor Davies Livermore and Huddlestone are 4 players that have made a huge difference to us this season, all brought in before the season started
Couldn't agree more mate, all that matters is getting points. To be fair though mate, you'd stopped picking up points before you signed the 2, I agree the players you listed were decent signings, but the 2 forwards have completed the unit, you would have been right in the mix without them. Long always looks like he's gonna make something happen, right back to when he was at Reading, it's bizarre that WBA saw fit to sell him on when they can't score at all.
Double edged sword.... He'd have gone for nothing in the summer and they did flog him for good money...however what price for relegation.
Aye, personally think he'd have been an ideal for us with his off the shoulder running and workrate, but no point dwelling, we need to get something from what we have. We need AJ & Ki to start playing again, and we need the worryingly untouchable O'Shea out of the side, he seems to get away with critisism, when he has single handedly been a reason for maybe 8-10 conceded this season, he is shocking at times.
Of course we should of signed him but we only sign foreign rubbish now. Get ready for the championship lads. I said in August we would go down & I'm pissed off I didn't put the bet on.
Said in a previous post that everybody could see we have no goal scoring threat at all in what we have , blame must be shown for not addressing this in january money should have been ploughed into a goal scorer a short term loan even with big wages should have been done ,the money is nothing in the big picture if relegated
I don't think its a lack of goal threat I think its more the failings of the midfield not given them any service. Borini got double figures in Serie A two seasons ago Fletcher has regularly got double figures in the premier league Altidore has 60 club goals the past two seasons and a great record for the USA. Whilst I don't think Fletcher suits the system the simple fact is we don't create chances and thats why we don't score goals.
I worry about the Championship ................................I don't think we're good enough for it !!!!!!!
Don't get me wrong - I think Long is a different class. Chases everything, fast as f**k and shows us what we've been missing up front. If someone can teach Jelavic to kick it properly we'll be laughing..... However this season has been about Davies and Huddlestone - without them I dread to think where we'd be.
Whilst scouting around in the Dutch league, the club picked the wrong player, Swansea splashed the cash, and got the one that adapted to the Prem. Bony. please log in to view this image
Don't rate Jelavic - Although he seems to be a player who comes in and scores for a dozen or so games then stops - a bit like Cisse for Newcastle - can't stand Shane Long as a player - horrible, snidey little **** - but he scores goals and that is definitely what we need!!
