  1. Does anyone else have VERY high hopes for this kid?

I think he could end up being a beasty LWB for us in the future. To be honest, even though Ranger looks class, Ferguson is probably my favourite youngster at the Toon. He's got class pace, good agility, looks like the type that will cut in alot and unleash hell. Hopefully he'll break into the Ireland team soon, supporting Best.

I see him more as an Ashley Cole type LB, one who's aggression and standing tackle ability will be a pivotal part of his defending, rather than strength. What good defenders lack in brute strength, they'll make up for in good timing of challenges.

I'd like to see Ferguson with a goal or an assist by the end of the season, aswell as Ranger. I personally don't have any problems with Ferguson starting a game this season, if Enrique is out. Atleast he actually goes in and challenges people, instead of the rest of that parcel of ****e we have at the back who just let players run into the box. I actually detect a hint of aggression coming from the lad. He looked like chinning a couple of the West Ham players when he came on in that game haha. He looks like he could take the physical side of the game. Despite him looking a bit vulnerable as he's a youngun, he shows excellent determination and the right type of aggression to win the ball.

    Howay young Shane.

Don't want to pile loads of pressure on the lad, not guaranteed to keep improving but yes, I think he could be great for us and even replace Enrique if he fulfils his potential and Enrique does actually want out. Needs to bulk up a bit though, he will need at least a bit more about himself physically to be a regular PL left back.

  5. He'll develop as he gets older. C.Ronaldo, for instance, was a little scrawny piece of **** when he first started playing for united, but he got in the gym and got more used to the physical side of the game, which is what Ferguson can do.

He's 19, almost 20. He's not getting much bigger than what he his. I dont think he'l make it in the league as a LB personally, think he'l make a better winger.

    I think He'll be a left winger
Can't see him as a left back a little bit too weak!
Really need Jose' back for the stoke game because I really wouldn't like to have Shane there
Looks good technically and with a bit of pace but young and no strength
    Left winger
Also watched the leeds game at the weekend

Pardew has said that he sees him more as a left back but he has looked very good going forward and looks like a very good prospect

Shane Ferguson is a definite prospect...My flatmate at uni is from a town 2 minutes away from his, he played against him in the junior leagues and said even then, despite his size and strength (he's always been small) he was head and shoulders above everyone else!

    A prospect....

But looks way too weak to be a serious full back, IMO.

Agree with Caw - would be interesting to see him as a winger.

As Pardew seems to say everytime Ferguson's mentioned, they've got him on a high protein and carb/calorie diet to try and bulk him up (or steak and milk diet as he calls it).
