    The Wisdom of William ShakeSpur…….

As we approach 2016, the centenary of his death, it occurred to me that The Bard, having been brought up in the West Midlands, would actually have pronounced his name as William ShakeSpur – surely not a coincidence! <doh> – and it simply demonstrates that he was an Arden(t) fan of our team! Moreover, he seems, mysteriously, to have been aware – all those years ago – of many of today’s players! Hidden in his plays, there are many subtle references to our current squad………….. and I have managed to identify a few of these references. :emoticon-0136-giggl

[Can you tell I used to be an English teacher? And have a bit of time on my hands at the moment?] :emoticon-0138-think

Anyway, I wanted to share the fruits of my research with fellow-not606 regulars. :emoticon-0126-nerd:

I just hope you don’t say, like Hippolyta in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Act V, Scene i):
“This is the silliest stuff that ever I heard!”……. :emoticon-0114-dull:

We have strict statutes and most biting Lloris
(Measure for Measure, Act I Scene iii)

The more you beat me, I will Vorm on you.
(A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Act II, Scene i)

    Which of you all
Unplagued with corns will Walk erbout with you

    (Romeo & Juliet, Act I, Scene v)

I have forgiven and Vertonghen all
(The Merchant of Venice, Act IV, Scene i)

    Alderweireld’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players

(As You Like It, Act II, Scene vii)

Davies, Davies, Davies, Davies, let me see, Davies; let me
    see, Davies; let me see…..

(Henry IV [part 2], Act V, Scene i)

At Christmas I no more desire a Rose. [1]
    (Love’s Labours Lost, Act I, Scene i)

Life every man holds dear; but the Dier man
Holds honour far more precious-dear than life.

(Troilus & Cressida, Act V, Scene iii)

What is he that builds stronger than either Mason?
    (Hamlet, Act V, Scene i)

    If that thy
    Bentaleb be honourable
(Romeo & Juliet, Act II, Scene ii)

    Tom’s a-cold [2]
(King Lear, Act III, Scene iv)

… meet me at the Townsend
(Henry IV [part 1], Act IV, Scene ii)

Come on; there is sixpence for you: let's have a Son(g). [3]
(Twelfth Night, Act II, Scene iii)

Himself the primrose path of dAlliance treads
    (Hamlet, Act I, Scene iii)

I would most Chadli know the issue of it.
    (A Winter’s Tale, Act V, Scene ii)

Then should the warlike Harry, like himself,
    Assume the port of Mars…

    (Henry V, Prologue)

But let one spirit of the first-born Kane
    Reign in all bosoms

    (2 Henry IV [part 2], Act I, Scene i)

Yes I can tell you used to be an English teacher. Especially when you messaged me with regards to my grammar once, many moons ago. <laugh>

Shakespeare had a few thoughts on our Harry…

Henry IV Part 1 Act 3 Scene 2

    Henry V

This gallant Hotspur, this all-praised night,
And your unthought-of Harry chance to meet.
For every honour sitting on his helm,

    And when we screw up….

Henry IV Part 1 Act 5 Scene 2

    Earl of Worcester

    A hair-brain'd Hotspur, govern'd by a spleen:

Shakespeare on Pochettino or is he talking about Kane again.

    Macbeth Act 5 scene2

    Caithness

Great White Hart Lane he strongly fortifies:
Some say he's mad; others that lesser hate him
Do call it valiant fury: but, for certain,
He cannot buckle his distemper'd cause
    Within the belt of rule.

And gentlemen not in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That spectated with us upon Spur Christian’s day.

Well done! I hunted for ages for something for him! Kicking myself for overlooking such a suitable quote!

It's addictive, this stuff, isn't it! Anyone for Trippier?! (How appropriate!)
(Apart from the song in "Twelfth Night" ?)

What a brazen-fac'd varlet art thou, to deny thou knowest me!
Is it two days ago since I beat thee and Trippier'd up thy heels before the (Ledley) King?

And if Shakespeare really wrote the following, he went full Nostradamus
    on our Audrey :

Nor Trippier'd neither, you base football player?

What's in a name? that which we call our Rose
By anyother name would Hodgson pick?

My weak attempt at bastardising a famous line.
