Consider yourself warned Waddo .. swearing on this board is not on. Who was the Manager Waddo cos i worked alongside Freddie Steele for a while. He also was responsable for breaking my nose too! With his head, he caught it flush and I was in goal.. My claim to fame I guess. GREAT bloke but he swore like a guddun! I remember one of me dad's mates once asked him if he wanted to go too watch the FAIL. His reply was where is that!
lol Potts cracking story mate The manager back then was John McGrath. I only got to play for about 30 minutes and hardly got the ball as everyone was out to impress. Would have liked to have made it but hey ho that's the way it goes
I was there when magrath got sacked and no coach turned out for us to train ... i was an app When we went back to the dressing rooms Rudgie came in and said i think u better call me gaffer from now on !!! We did and he was the fuka that let me go all be it i played for the reserves for a few more yrs it never happened !! Thats memories lol
TWO EX fail players on this board.. what next? Thanks for sharing the memories P.P. Waddo 30 mins YOU got more time on the pitch than Pennant does
Goodness me, I never realised I was in the elite company of ex-local footballers on this forum. If I had a cap I would doff it to you all. I only played for my school team (Butt Lane - Reginald Mitchell primary) but we did win the local cup in 1962!
I bow my head to all of you reaching that level. I remember plaing at school against QPR reserves and getting thoroughly thumped. Southern Amateur League 1st Division for 3rd XI was the highest I rose and that I thought that was a good level!! Well done to all those who played!
My "pedigree" for what it is worth was Catain of Hanford Boys Club when we won the Sentinel Shield at sadly Vale Park Then my beloved Stoke with the great Denis Smith I was offered an apprenticeship if my Dad put in a "bung" but sadly he could not afford So then it was the Vale and then Congleton Town before marriage at a tender age dictated the need for a Saturday job to boost the income and so then Sunday Pub league which was enjoyable None of us gains by living on regrets but my passion as a teenager was to play for Stoke and it saddens me those who nowadays abuse what for me is still the best profession To play a game you love to be superbly fit to be well paid ( over in many cases ) and depending on your team to play in Europe and beyond Happy days but still I can wear my replica shirt and dream SiS PS Potts Still intend when time allows to do a long PM about similar roots PPS Chelski started to look as though we could be in for a mullering on Saturday
S I Spain.. no problems with the PM but I found that if you type more than a few lines it does not post? I did PM too you my e-mail addrest S.I.S. Look forward to hearing from you. Re: Chelsea, I say we just go there and give it everything.
Guilty secret of the day, I have never played football in any organised team, kickabouts yes, anything else no. I went to a rugby playing school and carried on playing till I was in my mid 40's in Bedford Athletic's Extra 3rd team, suitably called 'The Warriors'
I trained with a school team, and with a team at the lido down my end. I only managed to play 15 minutes of one game though, I was rather terrible, but still enjoyed it all the same.
i was in the 2nd team at Langdale junior school 1970-71 , the first team was very good (won everything) , i was named as substitute for the 1st team twice but never played. Captain of 7 a side team beaten semi-finalists. I've worked on the Port Vale audit about 38 years ago , interesting trophy cabinet of staffordshire vase and sentinel cup in the "board room" .Unless Mo Choudray pulls his wallet out , i suspect Fail will go the same way as Accrington Stanley
