Several Championship clubs fail in Deadline Day move for QPR striker please log in to view this image please log in to view this image Date: 2nd September 2016 at 7:25pm Written by: Ryan White AddThis Sharing Buttons according to the Daily Star. Blackburn Rovers, Brentford and Reading were all unable to complete the signing of the 24 year-old, while Ipswich Town were also rumoured to be in for Washington as a replacement for Daryl Murphy, who joined Newcastle United. QPR manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink brought in Idrissa Sylla from Belgian outfit Anderlecht earlier in the week for an undisclosed fee, meaning the Northern Ireland international has been pushed further down the pecking order at Loftus Road. Washington has made just seven starts since his move from Peterborough United in January for a reported £2.5 million, but Hasselbaink believes he still has a bright future at the Championship club. The summer has been something to remember for the striker, who was called up to Northern Ireland’s Euro 2016 squad – their first major tournament since the 1986 World Cup. It is believed that the likes of Blackburn and Reading were looking at possible loan deals on deadline day to bolster their attacking options, but will be forced to wait until January for any such deal after the scrapping of the emergency loan window. QPR fans… what do you make of the news? Are you happy the manager has kept Washington? Or should he have gone out on loan
Good option to keep him. Young and can develop with good coaching. We also should not be a club that invests good money in our players only to cast them aside without having, in this case, given them the right level of footballing service. We need to get a decent ball, from decent wingers and midfielders, into these forwards if we want to score more goals. Boy needs to be given more opportunity.
I find it hard to see the potential in him, he can't seem to be able to beat a player, he's nothing special in the air, and hasn't scored many yet. But we need him as back-up for now and hopefully he will improve.
I still cannot work out Washington. Something is not working (system/luck/Higher division), i cannot tell but i am glad we have kept him. We need to sort the problem out rather than off load. Plus this is a JLH signing and he needs it to work. I also have this theory that the Reading owners do not have any money and will link themselves to everyone to make the fans think they are competing when they are not. Linked with many big names but signed none. Any club who tries to sign a player in the last hour of TDD is dreaming.
He young and he's obviously a confidence type of person. I think it is a good move to keep him and work with him. He scored a couple of goals at the start of the season. Hopefully JFH will get in his head.
We had a dearth of forwards, we went out and bought Ngakbothingymajig to bolster the options.....would have been bloody silly to then send out one of the few we already had therefore depleting our strike-force again
I want him to succeed but I have my doubts he will. I just don't see the basic talent so far. Hopefully my gut instinct will be proven wrong.
