Letââ¬â¢s look at the teams, likely to be challenging for 7th place and the order they currently stand in the League Two table, I will assume for now the top six placed teams, remain in the top six. 7th Stevenage 65pts ââ¬â GD 18 8th Gills 65pts ââ¬â GD 13 9th Rotherham 62pts ââ¬â GD 14 10th Port Vale 62pts GD 2 These are all the vital games, that will decide if we make the play offs or not: Game 44 Rotherham v Gills Stevenage v Port Vale Game 45 Aldershot v Rotherham Gills v Macclesfield Northampton v Stevenage Port Vale v Morecambe Game 46 Barnet v Port Vale Chesterfield v Gills Rotherham v Torquay Stevenage v Bury A perfect bank holiday Monday for us, would be a win at Rotherham and for Port Vale to take at least a point at Stevenage. With two home games and only a trip to Northampton remaining Stevenage must be strong favourites. It's not unreasonable to believe that they will pick up six points which means, given their superior goal difference we will need seven points from the last three games. Another problem is that Rotherham are in the last chance saloon on monday, if they don't win their play off ambitions will be gone.
People need to stop looking at the league table and start looking at the form table. Hereford came to us when their away form was good and they were taking points off many top teams, Morcombe also are showing good away form with 10 points from a possible 18 (promotion form if they could win at home as well). And Barnet who have also shown a marked improvement of late should have been treated with more respect. Now on to Rotherham, home form is really poor and expecting a win is quite reasonable. Macclesfield, away form looking good with 9 points from a possible 18, it's winnable but not if we approach it with the arrogance of thinking they're rubbish. Chesterfield, they've won 5 of their last 6 at home and I expect them to have a party day.
grumpygit - I have to agree, therefore overall for the last eight games... 1. Stevenage W5 D2 L1 PpG 2.12 8. Gillingham W3 D4 L1 PpG 1.62 18. Rotherham W1 D4 L3 PpG 0.87 19. Port Vale W1 D4 L3 PpG 0.87 (20. Macclesfield W2 D1 L5 PpG 0.87)
The one caution with the Macclesfield stats is that both the wins came away from home. It's a winnable game if we take them serious and do our homework.
Not many teams have been consistant up there so it is now are turn to have a little run and then hope that one will slip up, I believe that maybe 2 will slip up so there may be a few changes up there.
Grumpygit, Intelligent analysis. Well done. What are you doing on not606. You might just be underestimating the challenge facing Torquay in their remaining matches.
