requiring about 13-15 points at the half way stage in our fight for League One survival: H Carlisle - draw A Sheff Utd - lose H Oldham - win H Stevenage - draw A Rotherham - lose H Peterborough - lose A Tramere - lose We've got to be needing somewhere between 51/53 points at season end. Currently we have 12!!!!!! I originally forecast preseason we would achieve 63 points...how it currently stands I'm 9 points short of forecast...only three games I hear you say. The predictions above of win/draw/lose are from those same preseason predictions and i'm only counting five points...mountain to climb, maybe. Now i know you can knock forecasts but sadly to say I was bang on the nail last season...and have been previous seasons. So unless something miraculous changes we have got a seriously difficult road to survival. But as I say three straight wins could change that. Also don't underestimate the value of goal difference at least we've got England's Number One. I'm sure some of you would have worked out that nine from 63 equals that we will be safe, surely?...but it's not the halfway stage yet and looking more to lose another nine...maybe my forecasts are not so good after all...lol
brb - thank you for cheering me up ! As I see it, we've reached a stage where we MUST win ALL 4 home games and somehow get a point from one of the 3 tricky away games -- JUST to achieve the 13 points you suggest. This is a very tall order - and that would be to getting just about on par with a chance of avoiding relegation --- and more good news All those 'top' teams against which we have done so well, have to be played again ! ps .....and I thought my signature was a little 'deep' !
Out of those games I see the Oldham, Carlisle and Tranmere games as winnable. We usually play well against Steve Evans teams so whoever is boss needs to really put them up against Rotherham. Sheff United under Weir would have been a lot easier than them under Cloughie. Fingers crossed that the new man can get us on a good run or its hoof ball for us again next season.
The Gills PegLeg - sticking with how I come about my forecasts...sadly though my life as a Gills supporter, I have always seen Tranmere as our bogey team...we have only ever won once at their place in a 16 game history. At home and over 16 games again we have only won four. Over 32 games we only have a 15.63% win ratio, compared to Tranmere's 40.63%. Maybe it being the week upto Christmas we can repeat 2006/07, hopefully... 2006/2007 Fri 26 Jan Gillingham 2 - 0 Tranmere Rvs. League One Sat 23 Dec Tranmere Rvs. 2 - 3 Gillingham League One
Thanks for that I do remember that we have struggled against now you've said that, but I didn't realise that our record against them was that poor considering how long the two teams have been at similar levels. I was just trying to go on their current form at their moment when making that judgement.
