A “world famous cultural institution” is to relocate to Old Oak Common in a breakthrough for Boris Johnson’s plans to turn the desolate swathe of railway sidings and industrial estates into a thriving new west London district. The Mayor is expected to confirm that the “household name” will move to the site currently occupied by second-hand car dealership Cargiant, the Standard has learned. It will be at the heart of a cultural quarter in a £5 billion new town with 7,000 homes — known as Old Oak Park — next to the Grand Union Canal. http://www.standard.co.uk/news/lond...-to-old-oak-common-culture-zone-a3166166.html
We're a 'cultural institution'. I'll bet there are millions of 'cultures' growing in the Ellerslie bogs and our owners should be in an institution...
"""The new plans will be seen as a blow to Queens Park Rangers’ ambitions to build a 40,000-seat stadium at Old Oak Common, although the Championship club is still being considered for other potential sites in the area.""""""
Someone needs to engrave the wording of this thread on a slab of iron and send it to Tony Fernandes, so he can wear it like a ball and chain. And to continue the analogy, I just hope he has more irons in the fire than Old Oak Common
I really can't see us moving.... In fact I have visions of a news report 100 years from now saying " Welcome to Loftus road. The worlds oldest existing football stadium " Followed on by a tweet from a cryogenically unfrozen Tony ( live from Mars. )
The " world famous cultural institution" has clearly never visited the area Maybe its the site for a new Wormwood Scrubs prison?
No idea if this link will work, but it is to a ground in Holland home of Heracles Almelo who play in the Dutch Top Division and according to a piece i was reading on LFW was based on Loftus Road......Flanman may be able to give a bit more info. Anyway it does only hold 12000, but there must be some clever architects who can use this as a template for the rebuilding of HQ into a 20k/25k stadium, even lowering the pitch level to allow for steeper sided stands and greater capacity....... IMO we will be at Loftus Road for years to come so we may as well develop instead of looking for a site that will take years to come to fruition....... https://www.google.ie/maps/uv?hl=en&pb=!1s0x47b808841af47675:0x6c85b27795774a77!2m5!2m2!1i80!2i80!3m1!2i100!3m1!7e1!4shttps://ssl.panoramio.com/photo/342219!5sheracles almelo - Google Search&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjl06CS4MrKAhUEgg8KHRFqCAQQoioI6AEwHA Edit: the link does work and shows a gallery of the ground and you can do a virtual tour.....cool
Bang on Goldie, were allowed to play six a side in the car park after hours ....... now that's progress. Don't know why everyone is up in arms?
Certainly looks impressive without looking huge and over thought. I like the simple look without huge banking stands.
I'm sure some form of geothermal heating system could be incorporated, underfloor heating around the seats as well wouldn't go amiss either.......
