We can spend all day talking about positions but one source of victories that has been criminally overlooked for many a year is a dedicated set piece man. Leadbitter single handedly wasted two years' worth of set pieces, Bullard can apparently take a good free kick but were still waiting on that front... So... should Paul Jewell have in his mind to hunt out a corner and free kick expert? Or is it something that needs work on the training ground with our existing players? If you look at the top sides it's a vital ingredient of their success. Why have we ignored it for so long?
Something that the training ground is for. Of course if someone is a set piece expert than that's a bonus but the all around game is far more important. Every professional footballer should be able to kick a dead ball with some degree of proficiency
now I know we weren't up against top defenders or goalkeepers, but for my Sunday league side I was the free kick and corner taker. The goal is the same size and distances every time so I really can't understand how players can fail to put it in the top corner at least 50% of the time.
