Sessegnon's goal is to end Sunderland drought by James Hunter, Evening ChronicleApr 27 2012Add a comment Recommend inShare ?Share on emailShare on print Sunderland's Benin international striker Stephane Sessegnon STEPHANE SESSEGNON wants to end Sunderlandâs goal drought this weekend â and close in on his 10-goal target. The striker goes into tomorrowâs game against Bolton as the Black Catsâ joint-top scorer with eight goals, sharing that honour with Seb Larsson, and is aiming to reach double figures in a season for the first time in his career. More importantly, Sunderland need to call time on their six-and-a-half hour wait for a goal which has put their hopes of a top-10 finish in jeopardy. Sessegnon scored his first goal of the season against the Trotters at the Reebok Stadium in October, setting Sunderland on their way to a 2-0 win. He is looking for a repeat performance at the Stadium of Light. The 27-year-old, who has not scored in his last six games, said: âI hope I can get another goal against Bolton. âHowever, it does not matter if I score, the most important thing is the team winning. âI am desperate to get into double figures before the end of the season, although that is tough with just three games to go. âIt is still possible and it os something I am keen to get. âAt the start of the season, my aim was to get 10 goals because I had never done that before. âI will be pleased if I can do that and the team finishes in the top 10. âThen it will be a case of our mission has been accomplished.â The Warasiders have not scored in their last four games and if they do not find the target tomorrow they will have gone through April without getting on the scoresheet. Sessegnon is confident the lack of goals has not developed into a mental problem, but he warns the Black Cats cannot afford to go in gung-ho against a Bolton side who won at Aston Villa in midweek to give themselves hope of avoiding the drop. He added: âI hope itâs not a mental thing. Before the last four matches, we have scored regularly for most of the season. âIt is just one of those things which happens. âWe must be on our guard defensively as well, particularly against a team like Bolton who will be tough to break down and who will try to hit us on the counter-attack. âIt is true it was a big victory for Bolton on Tuesday night and it will have done a lot for their confidence. âWe have got three matches left and we want to finish well. We do not want to be giving any presents away to the opposition. âTo finish in the top 10 is a big thing for us. It will be difficult against a side like Bolton, but we need to get back winning. âWe want to improve on last season when we finished 10th. âThat was our goal at the start of the season and, although we have fallen out of it, it is important we get back there.â
Should be worth a punt on him rog, not scoring that is. All we need tomorrow is a goal from anyone and from anywhere just to settle the lads down a bit. Again though not expecting a very scintillating game and my money will be on a 0-0 "thriller" yet again. Hope to **** I'm wrong mate.
