I am sick to death of so called fans using Stephane Sessegnon as a scape goat after defeats, honestly its an absolute disgrace and when you come on this boards with countless threads singling out players (Not just Sess) I am embarrassed to be a SAFC fan.

If I hear "a luxury we cant afford" again, that drives me crazy. The lad is anything but a luxury! and we can afford him as we bought him!

If our fans want "rid" of our best player then how are we going to progress as a football club? It would be up there with some of the biggest mistakes in our history selling Sess and by selling him you would automatically make our club just another Stoke! Long ball team full of average players (No offence to Stoke).

Having Sessegnon in the team gives us that platform to actually play football on the deck and through the middle. His touch is great and can open up defences with lovely through balls. The graft Sess also puts in gets unnoticed by the Sess haters on the internet but lets face it how would they be able to even notice past all the pop up adverts on their laptops? But it doesnt go unnoticed by us lads at the game be sure of that!

its not his fault that he is surrounded by average players who all do the same the job and currently playing much worse than him although where is their threads to single them out? Granted he doesn't score enough goals but put him in a team like Arsenal or Swansea and he would have a field day with assists.

Football is a team game, players, fans, staff, we are all a team and when people single people out it shows that this club is not unified as a team. Yes when we lose its disappointing and we can criticize some player's performances but ultimately the team lost and singling out players is a joke by mindless fans, which unfortunately every football club has.

Imagine putting Mata in our team playing behind Fletcher, then when Mata receives the ball Fletcher is usually 20m away and marked by the whole of the defence, the wingers are usually static about 10 yards behind play as with the fullbacks stuck on the 18 yard box afraid to move and we expect Sess to create quite frankly a ****ing miracle!

The whole system isn't working and hasn't for a while, it shows glimpses in games but we have the wrong players to implement it. Hopefully we can build a team/squad around Sess and play some nice football instead of long ball, which we will do theres no question about it with Sess out of the team.

FTM & all the Sess haters!

For me he is either very good and way ahead of the rest of the team (possible) or he is crap (had his head turned at the start of the season probable), I'm not sure but even you have to agree he did himself no favours at the start of the season where we would have been better off without him.
Him and McClean need a good kick up the jacksy and they aren't the only ones either mate.

Sess is the mot skill full player to ever wear the red and white...but problem is that the tricks are all he has he carnt pass and doesn't score he is not a scapegoat there are plenty others letting the team down . Look some players it works for them at a club for sess and safc I don't think it does as talc said hehad his head turned in the summer that is clear and this time in the summer I'm sure he will leave which is a shame but maybe the time is right to try something different

Sess would be an average player in a top 5 side. (Playing with better players) He would be a garbage player in a bottom 5 side. (Sorry mate.....He is a luxury player) He would be brilliant in a football playing side such as Arsenal or even Swansea. he's the only player we have who can take a man and beat him however he tries to beat the same man 3/4 times. Doesn't play the easy ball and more often than not ends up losing it. Can't shoot so his goal return is poor to average. Is he our best player? YES by a million miles. Would I be overly bothered if we sold him? NOT AT ALL.

I think our problem is twofold :

1/ We have a weak Centre Midfield.

2/ We are playing players out of position all over the park at times, but more importantly, at both Full Backs (when Rose is not playing, that is).

Rose is primarily a winger mate so even he isn't in the right spot, maybe that is what's wrong with us too many out of position players.

The Colback siruation has been done to death I know but I frigging hate him in midfield, so Left back or nowhere. If it has to be then rose LW who looks a proper footballer at LB or LW. Don't mind Gardner at RB. Only real downside is he has no pace whatsoever and that's a bit of a concern. Larsson.....this is a real problem. Doesn't do a lot on the RW but puts the odd good ball into the box (usually an empty box mind) in the CM he's woeful. Can Johnson do it on the RW? I think not as his right leg is for standing on only, needs to be on the left. Sess. What's his best position? Don't think anyone knows. So in conclussion we are probably going into games with 5/6 players playing out of position/not their best position. Barring a lot of injuries/suspensions this just isn't right and needs addressing pronto.

I can see your views but how is he a luxury player? he works his arse off in every game and is the only one to get you off your feet when he has the ball.

If we sold him mate we are just a Stoke mk 2 team, just lumping it in the box. I want our team to play football on the deck and Sess is the only one who can at the minute, we need more footballing footballers if thats make sense ha but we keep buying English players who lets face it cant keep the football.

By the way this is an appreciation thread so positive Sess points only! haha

Remember his performance against Chelsea away last season? Unreal, I do admit this should be more often but if it was he probably would play for a better team.

I have watched Sessegnon look up to find a team mate and have no support - this gets fans on HIS back when basically it's not his fault. He is a very verry good player and is our best attacking threat from open play (don't mean goalscoring but he creates for others) - He tore Vincent Kompany a new one both this season and last and, IMO, Kompany is one of the best in the league. Against West Brom he was in a "cul-de-sac" so to speak going nowhere, used a bit of s=kill to leave 2 players for dead, got to the edge of the box and looked up to see...... NOTHING in the box - only defenders - 3 defenders surrounded him and got the ball off him and our fans got on his back - he turned to the north stand, held his arms out a shrugged as if to say "what else can I do?" - He can pass the ball (look at the pass he played across field against West Ham) - and he often does pass the ball really well - just far to often our midfield are 3 yards in front of the back 4 instead of supporting him and Fletcher

Nobody is questioning his ability just whether we as a club will ever get the best out of him.

Like it or not, sessegnon is the problem, not because he is crap but because he is crap where we play him.

Unless he is moved out wide, using him as the 2nd main source of goals is holding up back and costing us games.

I want to see a Sunderland team with pace and flair and he should be part of that but a correct place for him not just any place.

I saw your thread about playing him behind Fletcher & Graham and I am all up for that, especially against Reading! What did we have to lose? Instead we play the boring sit back/defensive football and still end up getting beat.

We arnt safe yet but we do/did have a little cushion on the relegation zone but instead of attacking we are tentative and nervous and will probably end up getting dragged back into it. We need to have more faith in our attack and defence to play more attacking, far too often are we scared to lose the game instead of winning it!
