what's wrong with McClaren ? Did well with Boro; was assistant at Manu during a very good spell; did well with Twente ... poor time with England but how much of that was the team and the press ? Didn't quite work out in Germany. No world beater, but IMO you'd be changing from an over-rated manager to an under-rated one.

What are the reasons for really not wanting him to manage Sunderland ? And why do choices like DiCanio or Poyet seem better ?

He just left Twente, I read it was due to his defensive style of play. Believe me we've had that long enough under O'Neill

Been ages since he's been in the English game and his national team failures will hang over his head for as long in England forever.

I know the national team failures will mean he is never a press darling, but I would wonder if they should not really be taken too much into consideration as there are other contributing factors with the national game, taking that out of the equation he's got some decent stuff on his CV and has quite a bit of experience managing in England.

He also demonstrated some attacking nous when he was in Europe with Boro

McClaren has a decent club managerial record for sure but theres just something about him I cant stand.

The way he looks, talks and generally thinks he is the ****ing bees knees just irritates the **** out of me. I'd sooner have Bruce back than him and I'd rather have heavy weights attached to my genitals for a year than have Bruce back.

I would like a manager that can make us play good attacking football. Maclaren in my opinion will be more defensive and negative.

Same here (apart from the genital bit). It`s not as if he was 1st choice for the England job and that business with the brolly made him a laughing stock.

You couldn`t take him seriously after that.

Got a couple of smoggy mates and they reckon Boro's success at the time was more down to Gibson and the old pro's.

Didn't the Twente fans have protests to get rid of him?

As for England we all saw how **** his negative way of playing led to disaster.
