An absolute **** of a human being.

    Playing the sexism card.

Blatant to anyone watching it was just purely down to her being bested by her opponent, and throwing a tantrum. She claims this umpire picked on her because she is a woman. To the benefit of, er, well, another woman? Like all umpires in tennis this one is fairly inconsistent in his approach. Such are the rules it happens quite regular.

She claims it wouldn't have happened to a man. Yet I can recall recently an italian tennis player being rude/sexist to a female umpire and he rightly lost the match. I can recall McEnroe abusing an umpire and losing a point or game to some swedish dude back in the day. There is countless examples of men beign taken to task by umpires for abuse.

Ah the coaching issue? Well I know between 2010-2015 there were roughly 24 fines meted out for on court coaching. Its prohibited. The coach has admitted to doing it. It matters not that it is not routinely invoked by every umpire. That is a different issue for the tour to address. Probably by just allowing coaching though I think its wrong as it is meant to be an individual event and they should sort it out themselves.

The reality is very different and you need to look no further than Serena's "you won't umpire another of my matches" comment for the real problem. She thinks she is bigger than the game and her ego is out of control.

I despise her because she is hurting the game. Not only is she bad for the game of tennis, she is bad for equality. When you use the sexism card like she has, you harm the movement to get equality for women. It is the same when the race card is used when race isn't the issue. Or false rape claims are lodged in the hunt for cash. All of these things harm the fight against very important subjects. She has used her celebrity to get momentum behind it now and she will get away with it. The 17K fine is not enough. She should serve a long ban for bringing the game into disrepute and pissing all over her fellow females in an attempt to get her own way.

completely agree - really quite surprised the race card hasn't come out yet....

The one I feel sorry for in all of this is the poor lass who actually won the damn thing, first time anyone from her country has won a major event like that and she ends up dealing with this crap

It was all a bit over the top. It was full on shouting and name calling of the umpire. Sorry, but do you think he's going to sit there and take it indefinitely? Not really buying the sexism claim.

The worrying thing for me is a lot of people are behind her on this point. I see your point and I agree playing the sexist card in this situation is clearly not correct and will now 100% influence umpires decisions in the future. How can it not?

Her point about "it wouldn't have happened to a man" is in fact MORE sexist than what has happened to her! But because she is female she is allowed to say whatever she wants.

Does anyone really think the umpire sat there and thought "ah because shes a woman I will dock her points/games because of her actions"?

If it was a woman umpire and she did the same thing what would she have been? Racist? (If she was white)

For me this all comes down to her looking for a scapegoat because she couldn't win and it takes the emphasis on the actual winning player.

For me she has crossed the line and going forward how can integrity remain for any of her matches?

This is the thing. That poor lass has worked her arse off to get to that stage. Its all taken away by some jumped up fellow player who thinks the game of tennis is at her beck and call. Literally the headlines are all about Williams. Her guilt ridden attempt to go back at the awards ceremony is too late. You have no class, you have no sense of right and wrong, you can't buy it with that half hearted gesture. I know she is not the only entitled spoilt brat in the sporting arenas, but she is one of the worst. She has previous of this behaviour too. Like when she threatened to ram the ball down the throat of a line judge.

Poor Japanese girl/lady/woman wins her first ever Grand Slam Tournament and hardly anyone is acknowledging how well she has done.

Just for the LOLS let's look at some facts. From USA Today.

Serena Williams accused Ramos of sexism after he issued her three code violations.

Before Ramos issued the third code violation, which cost Williams a full game, she had called Ramos a “liar’’ and a “thief.’’

Now, let’s check the 2018 Official Grand Slam Rule Book.

“… verbal abuse is defined as a statement about an official, opponent, sponsor, spectator or other person that implies dishonesty or is derogatory, insulting or otherwise abusive."

To call an umpire a liar and a thief clearly implies dishonesty.

As for the notion that men get away with saying and doing much worse, that has not always been the case in Ramos’ history as a chair umpire.

    1. During the 2016 Olympics, Ramos issued a code violation to Andy Murray after thinking Murray had called Ramos “stupid.’’ Murray later claimed he said “stupid umpiring,’’ not “stupid umpire.”

    2. During a fourth-round match at the 2017 French Open, Rafael Nadal lost a first serve after Ramos issued a code violation for Nadal taking too much time. Nadal later fired back, saying Ramos would “never chair another of his matches again.”

    3. In July at Wimbledon, Ramos issued Novak Djokovic a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct because Djokovic threw his racket to the ground.

Mouratoglou on Saturday admitted he was coaching and said Ramos should have quietly warned Williams to tell Mouratoglou to stop.

“That’s what umpires do all year,” the coach said, “and it would have ended there, and we would have avoided a drama that was totally avoidable.”

But assessing code violations for coaching is not uncommon, according to information provided by the ITF. Of the 31 code violations assessed during the three Grand Slams before the US Open, 11 of them were for coaching — more than any other code violation.

Because Williams was issued a warning for the coaching violation, she was immediately assessed a code violation when she slammed her racket onto the court and received a point penalty.

During the three previous Grand Slams — the French Open, Wimbledon and Australian Open — men were assessed 59 code violations, almost twice as many as the women. The men were issued violations for coaching nine times and the most common violation was abuse of racket/equipment 19 times.

Whilst were talking about equality between the sexes in tennis..... when are women going to do as much work as the men to earn the equal prize money they get? Exploitation of men and double standards there.

It is a valid point. If they want equality then they need to play 5 set matches.

    https://www.quora.com/Why-do-female-Tennis-players-only-play-3-sets-while-the-males-play-5-sets

Interestingly fans, tournament organisers, tv companies and players don't seem to want it. Maybe the solution is to drop down to 3 set matches or men. Imagine the number of great matches that would never have taken place...

Yeah total bad loser, exploiting her power, race, gender and position to basically alter the argument to make her right... I mean, I don't want to make comparisons, but she is a hilarious caricature of what most black women are actually fighting against.

The tennis organisations and pundits are so far up her arse it's pathetic. Her daughter should grow up to be ashamed of her childish behaviour.

Osaka was brilliant, Williams was ****, and no amount of roid rage will change that... No need to get your balls in a twist.

Some rabble rousers spout about equality but then want concessions.

    Like the wife.

Equality all the way with her... until it’s her ****ing round.

Serena has been on this "victim" route ever since she came back from having a kid. Started off with how she almost died during childbirth, how she was doing so well for a new mother - basically just trying to milk crowd and media support. Every time she lost she came out with the same ****.Plenty of other women tennis players have kids but don't make such a big deal about it. Now the umpires are racist and sexist.

I do actually think that they should do away with the coaching rule though. They players are so heavily coached that most of it is instinct anyway - a coach telling them to stand in a bit closer on the serve makes no difference.

Think they should actually reduce Mens Tennis down to 3 sets rather than increase Womens to 5. Think a three set game is a much more exciting spectacle.

I don't know how many of you saw the 'racist' cartoon in the Australian papers.

For me, it wasn't. It was a spot on depiction.
