Sepp Blatter: Kevin-Prince Boateng is 'running away' from racism
Fifa president claims AC Milan midfielder was wrong to walk off field in protest against fans

JAMES MARINER SUNDAY 06 JANUARY 2013

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has claimed that Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng was wrong to walk off the field following racist abuse from the stands last week.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth midfielder departed the field, followed by his team-mates, during a friendly match against Pro Patria after being subjected to racist taunting from sections of the home support. His actions had been widely praised by players and politicians, including Milan president Silvio Berlusconi, but Blatter does not believe the Ghana international's actions were necessarily correct.

"Walk off? No. I don't think that is the solution,
" the Swiss, speaking in Dubai on a tour of the Middle East, said. "I don't think you can run away, because eventually you can run away if you lose a match. This issue is a very touchy subject. We can't control the actions of individual fans, you risk criminalising thousands of fans for the actions of a few. The majority of fans behaved themselves."

I disagree with Blatter as per usual.
Boateng had good reason to walk off the field, but I think Boateng should be banned for kicking the ball in the crowd as he did.
You cannot let a player off for action like that because of their skin colour

Have to try and treat everyone the same mate.
If Joey Barton lost his cool with the crowd because they were abusing him and he picked up the ball and kicked it at them, he would get a lengthy ban.
He would also have tossers like Garth Crooks saying he should be kicked out the game for his actions.

From footage Boateng kicked the ball into wire mesh, and you have to ask why is all that mesh there in the first place?

    Fair enough mate.

But if Joey Barton did do the same thing he SHOULD be kicked out of the game! If you repeatedly break the rules your chances eventually run out. As far as I know, Boateng ain't go no previous.

good player IMHO but who will take a chance on him, idiots will now goad him deliberately, the better course of action is to ignore it or take the piss out of the idiots and applaud them and laugh.

My opinion is that we should all grow thicker skins and not let monkey noises and the odd racist word offend us so much.

If you walk off because of crowds racist chants then they can use that as a weapon against you.

My view is that racists convicted of racial chanting should have their tongues cut out.
