As I said last week one of the highlights of the week, for me, on the old gee-gee front is the above horse coming under the hammer at DBS tomorrow. As itâs quiet on the racing front any great brain want to display their knowledge of both horse racing and horse flesh and predict how much Sennockian Star will sell for and who will be the buyer??? Heâs a 4YO gelding by Rock of Gibraltar out of the Group 1 winning mare, Chorist. In total Sennockian Star has won 8 races, been placed 10 times and has career earnings in excess of £154k. This season he has steadily climbed up the handicap and his current official perch is 106. He's being sold with an entry in a â¬65,000 Group 3 at Lepardstown next weekend. Who the old boy will appeal to is a very interesting topic as is who ultimately will purchase him. Personally, I think those âjumping boysâ will be all over him as he must be viewed as potentially a lovely prospect for the hurdling game. However, his future options and who he could appeal to include: (i) he could remain on the level as he doesnât look to have yet reached his full potential on the Flat, (ii) Sennockian Star could be sent jumping. Potentially interesting novice hurdler and perhaps one day even higher, (iii) dual purpose horse. Campaigned in high class races both on the Flat and over the sticks, (iv) candidate for winter races in Meydan and the Middle East. Heâs a tough individual who looks adaptable, (v) Senockian Star could even appeal to overseas investors in the US, Australia and Far East where they race for real money. So how much do you think he will sell for? If you want to have a guess make it by 10 am tomorrow morning. Iâll go for £175,000. Apparently, they are selling in £âs rather than guineas. The winner, unsurprisingly, is the closest to what Sennockian Star goes for. Secondly, who do you think will be the purchaser??? Iâll opt for one of Mr Hendersonâs associates and hopefully they then put him with the forumâs favourite trainer. Iâm sure Sennockian Star hopes that too, donât you think???
Put me a tenner on old boy Ponsonby, who will then send him to Alan King to be trained as a dual purpose horse. Mind you, doesn't he need "King" Kieran Fallon on his back to win??
Don't know how much round the 250,000 mark and will be sold to Sheik Maktoun and sent to the Ferguson yard as he loves his ex flat stars
....maybe he will go to one Mr.Grayson or one Mrs.Stokell, and be trained as a 6f Polytrack sprinter? You never know with horseracing these days...........
Actually Mrs Stokell might not be a bad shout! She’s at the sale and looking at the latest buys has already purchased 2 so far today – Anjuna Beach (£3,000) and Bapak Bangsawan (£800).
Sennockian Star has not been sold. He failed to reach his reserve. Bidding for him had got up to £240,000. Similarly, Kool Kompany also failed to sell for the same reason. Bidding for him had got up to £730,000. At the time of writing the highest priced sold horse at DBS today has been the 2YO Izzthatright. A multiple winner for Richard Fahey this term he has been bought by Jasim Ghazali for £185,000.
I was pretty close? How much was his reserve- I'm surprised about KoolKompany not selling- but KK was sold in a private sale to Neil Werrett the co owner of Black Caviar but is to stay at the Hannon yard
How on earth can Kool Kompany not sell for £730,00 what were they hoping for? I would have snapped their hand off for half that.
Kool kompany was a reserve of £1m which is ludicrous he has maybe 1 or 2 races left as a 2yo and as a 3yo he may aswell go to stud ! Sennokian star is different I thought maybe £250,000 as stated above and expected him to go as a duel or over to oz I believe he will change hands before the end of year and could see him at Cheltenham
They should have taken the money for Kool Kompany. I have a feeling his two year old days will turn out to be his best and I am sure he will not easily realise more than that at stud anytime soon.
Kool Kompany, if he is worth that money then you just have to laugh. He is a horrible looking brute (sorry), who won't attract great money at stud, and how are they going to earn that sort of cash from a horse that seemingly looks over-raced already? MPR should have snapped the hand off someone who bidded over half a million for him.
Just read that he has changed hands in a private sale and stays with Hannon. Good for all parties I expect.
I am assuming the amount has been communicated to HMIR and the appropriate taxes paid ........................
Who was sitting around this morning with 3/4 of a million pound and could think of nothing better to do than buy Kool Kompany, a good but nothing special horse who on evidence may well have his best days behind him at two. Surely it would have been more fun to spend 50,000 each on 10 yearlings and train them to the end of two and see what you had.
No surprise Sennockian Star has found little interest. 34 four career runs and only just over half way through his 4-y-o season. No thanks..absolutely no potential going forward to my mind. Mr Henderson's Bobs Worth has three festival wins to his name and has only raced 15 times in his career. Difference between a genius and a dart thrower.
It would be fascinating to discover the final purchase price re Kool Kompany. Although unless 1 of the 2 parties reveals all I guess we will never know for sure. As detailed above after being led out of the sales ring unsold at £730,000 a private sale was agreed between Middleham Park Racing and the new owners within the following few hours. Certainly good business for Middleham Park though who bought Kool Kompany for £40,000 and also earned close to £200k in prizemoney from the horse. Dex, I wouldn’t say there was little interest in Sennockian Star. Bidding on him did reach £240,000 prior to him being led unsold out of the old sales ring.
