    I know this will ruffle the feathers of a few people on here.

    It looks like Jose has played his last game for us. I think this is a good thing for Charlton. I mentioned this last season and was shot down in flames- but i honestly believe this to be the case - onwards and upwards. !
    To be honest, although i acknowledge he gave his all all the time, i believe that his loss will benefit us.
    My view on Jose, is that he was very much one-dimensional, yes it could put his foot in, but his distribution and creativity was quite poor, along with zero shooting ability, and was at times a liability because of his tendency to get booked and sent off at regular intervals.
    I believe that the new recruits will provide a different style of football more akin to what CP wants, and will also ensure a style outside of what sometimes Semedo dictated because of his inabilities.

    I kind of agree with you. To be a force in this league, as I have said before, is to clear out the dead wood.

    Before we saw the moves the board were making, there was a case for why he maybe should stay. Since then, he is no longer needed.

    As much as I like him, I'd have to agree with you all.

    I did say at the end of last season that there had to be a root and branch clearout and it looks like that's exactly what we're getting.

    Stu, who is your avatar? Looks like Buster Bloodvessel - I posted this question on another thread and then couldn't find it again to see if you'd replied...strewth, my memory.

    Fatty Towers! Brilliant!

    I read in a paper a while ago that he'd had a gastric bypass and had lost 15 stone - can't imagine that at all.

    An absolute one-off.

    My only real thoughts beyond a level of agreeance is that we may jump too quickly. We have to keep in mind the 'what if' of our new central midfield core, what if they don't live up to it? What if they don't offer the same solidity as semedo?

    This does however all depend on the other big if.....if we can resign him cheap enough to make it worthwhile? My comment is simply a note of caution over a good player, brave and committed servant

    Been saying this about Semedo for at least the last two years...

    It's just a shame it's taken a whole new midfield being brought in before for some people to wake up and smell the coffee.

    CB = YES
    CM = NO

    Wherever he does end up i wish him all the success and happiness in the world.

    Ben, I doubt very much whether he'd re-sign for what we're paying some of the new players - it'd just be too much of a drop.

    Maybe we should hang fire untill we have seen our new players perform before we all say somedo was useless....

    Dont think he was useless Mike, but he lacked pace and creativity. Good at putting his foot in, and giving 100% but thats about it. He was paired with Racon and I cannot remember a more ineffectual midfield at Charlton for a long time.

    As TR says,I dont think any of us are saying he was useless, just very one-dimensional, and because of the position he played, dictated the way we played.

    The fact is that we couldn't go on building a team around Semedo's limited abilities. Two seasons of League One with Jose as the man in the middle and we have achieved little. New impetus was needed, we have that now, so let us get excited about what's to come and wish Jose the very best for the future.

    He may be a fine servant and a half decent player but I for one was getting bored witless.
