Nothing's happened yet, but the talk that's floating around is that not only is RVP on his way out, but so is Song. If this turns into reality, this will be very bad for Arsenal for a number of reasons:

1-Another summer, and more of our top players being sold. That's not a good sign no matter how you look at it, if you look around Europe, no other major club has lost as many key players as Arsenal has during the summer transfer windows. It essentially means that every summer that rolls in, it becomes a formality for a major player to leave Arsenal, and if we can't keep a hold of our top stars, then you can't convince everyone you're a major top team, Wenger himself admitted to that last summer when we sold both Fabregas and Nasri.

2-Selling your key players sets you back, we have made good signings this summer, but selling your best players, and buying new players, is like taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back. Buying new players to replace outgoing players means that the new players are going to need to take their time to adapt to the club, the system, and the new league. So it becomes a building process all again, and it turns into a vicious cycle, because while we start rebuilding again and another season goes by, by the summer time another top player at the club grows impatient and wants to leave, and so the cycle beings all again. RVP and Song are key players to Arsenal, put them in with our new signings and you have greatly strengthened the team, sell them, and you lose that.

3-We lose club depth, just look at this way, let's say RVP and Song don't leave, and then you add them to the 3 new players we have signed, and possibly one more to come, and all of a sudden you see a club with great depth in the squad, something Arsenal have often lacked in the previous seasons.

4-It clearly shows that there is a money making policy at Arsenal to constantly sell players to make a profit, Wenger himself openly stated this was the case a few seasons ago, that we had to sell players to balance the books for our debt, but our debt at the moment is under control and being paid off from our football revenues separate from revenue being made from player transfers. So it's clear that selling players has nothing to do with balancing the books, but has everything to do with making a profit, and when the club start a policy of revenue making that revolves around selling our best players, then that is a very very very negative prospect, especially from a footballing perspective.

5-Last but not least, a lot of people are saying we will replace them, for example, Song will be replaced by M'villa, to begin with, there's no guarantee that the replacement will play or do better than the outgoing player, so this is just a prediction with no guarantees.

Selling RVP is a great move. If you want to bet the club on RvP having another 30 goal season you are crazy. Podolski is a huge upgrade; he is a far superior player in every way. RVP still might not go, if Man Utd cannot afford him.

I still haven't read anything anywhere that makes me think Song is leaving. There is no reason for Arsenal to sell (we don't need the money), there is no reason for Song to go (to sit on the bench), and Barcelona can't afford him (they still owe us for Fabregas).

I almost get the impression that you want Arsenal to sell these players so you can complain about it. Your post is incredibly misleading. You state "It clearly shows..." when the facts that you base the entire article on haven't even happened yet.

Also, how can you take Fabregas, Nasri and RvP demanding to leave and turn it into Arsenal deciding to sell them to make a profit? As if those players were perfectly happy at Arsenal and were sold kicking and screaming to their new clubs.

Presumably you can quote Nasri's tweets, where he has begged to be allowed to continue playing for Arsenal, to work for nothing, if only Wenger did not sell him to Manchester City and their horrible obscene salaries! Or perhaps Fabregas' tweets where he claims to have Arsenal DNA and would take a salary cut and would pay Arsenal a lump sum out of his own pocket, if only they would extend his contract and let him stay longer!

RVP has already burnt his bridges. Would you honestly rather keep RVP for another season just for him to leave on a free transfer, or would you rather rob Man Utd for over 20mil?I think the latter is preferable. Look, RVP didn't want to re-sign a contract. Why keep a player whose future isn't at Arsenal? As it has already been stated, we already have a replacement. Whether or not he will surpass RVP for Arsenal remains to be seen but he looks promising.

Personally, it would be stupid to keep RVP if we can get over 20mil for him. It isn't ideal that we're selling him to a league rival but unfortunately, no other team are dense enough to cough up that amount for him. With all due respect, RVP is injury prone, 29 and him replicating another 30goal season is not that likely.

As for Song, I really don't want him to go but again, if Barca are willing to pay over the odds for Song, should Arsenal turn down that opportunity? Don't get me wrong, I don't want Arsenal becomeing a feeder club but at the same time, I still feel we have adequate replacements.

I like Podolski alot but he's NOT an upgrade on RVP.
    Neither is Giroud.

    - Perhaps they could get to his level in a year or two under Wenger but they are certainly not there yet.

Then there's the issue of selling last Seasons most deadly striker to a team we are supposedly rivals with.

Selling Van Persie to one of our rivals shows a complete lack of competitiveness.

Either we are trying to beat United and City to the league title oR we are NOT.

I'd take £25M plus for RVP to Man U or £20M to a foreign club. If not let him play a bit part in the side and if he doesn't perform, let him rot in the reserves.

I'd also only take somewhere close to £20M for Song. I do not believe we would let him go for less. I also don't think we'd let him go unless we had someone else lined up and close to signing.

As for the OP, very OTT. But TT, that's also a little OTT in the opposite direction.

    I would'nt.

If United sign RVP they will win the league.
(and as a club we are again showing that money is more important to us than competition)

Possibly. Despite Man Utd having no vidic and playing poorly, they lost the league on goal difference. That's incredible considering the amount Man City spent. Now they have a very talented creative midfielder, I do feel they are one striker away from being the pacesetters. But again, would you honestly rather keep a frustrated RVP who could leave for free next season? It's not guaranteed that he will have the same affect for Man Utd that he did for Arsenal. Nothing's guranteed. RVP wouldn't be the first big name player to move to a huge club only to fail to live up to expectations. *cough*Ibra*cough*

EDIT: And he didn't exactly set the Euros alight either.

All I am saying is that I'd rather bet on Podolski and Giroud netting 15 goals each, than RvP netting 30 again, or even playing 20 games this season. I don't see why that is OTT.

A year ago I told a friend at work that RVP would be top scorer in the league, beating Rooney, Drogba and Aguero. He told me that I was mad.

So, I'll make you another prediction. If RvP joins Manchester United he will not be their first choice striker by the end of the season, and will have scored less than 15 goals.

I think Podolski is brilliant, don't get me wrong, I saw the highlights of your game against Koln and he looks like he's fitting in well with your style, but RVP is head and shoulders above him.

    Definitely a signature-worthy comment!!!

I would definitely bet against RVP scoring another 30 goals.

Podolski looks a great player. You don't get that many caps and goals for a great national team by the age of 27 without being special, but time will tell how he does. Saying he is a 'huge upgrade' is a big statement, hence why I feel TT went a little OTT.

    OK, here is the rationale.

    1. Podolski can play wide effectively. If we want to put Giroud in as CF at the end of a game we can.

    2. Podolski is far stronger. He is an inch shorter but far stockier and doesn't get brushed off the ball. He can play as a genuine CF and is an aerial threat in a crowded box.

    3. Podolski is faster, he has genuine pace, RvP does not.

    4. RvPs goals to chances ratio is far inferior to most players in the PL. RvP scored the most goals, but he also missed an obscene number. Podolski's goal to chance ratio is excellent.

    5. Podolski is younger and still hungry for success, RvP is not. Podolski wants to carry Arsenal to victory; RvP is looking for someone to carry him.

That said, we are going to have a far harder time replacing RvPs assists, both credited and uncredited, than his goals.

No offence, but there is no justifying that comment really. RVP is far better than Podolski.

Wow that **** drogs is still trawling our board. As for RVP it's better to get rid of him and get the money. The main reasons are we have seen the best of him
Last season and he has one year left on his contract. It makes complete sense. If united offered the best price. So be it.

Bergkampspilot - Leave the spite out of this thread. Drogs is OK at times. We don't need you and COYG to ruin every thread.

    No offense intended to you.

I couldn't give a **** if Song left, he's a good player, but a liability and easily replaceable.
