The lad was playing top notch stuff before we got rid, he didn't want to leave and got sold with us pretty short of centre back options. Now if Bramble gets found guilty of this how short are we at the back! we will have... Brown who even though has played everygame this season has had his injury problems over the last few years Turner who aint fit and has had injury problems everynow and again since he pretty much joined Laing a teenager who IMO should not be chucked in at the deep end while we are struggling. Looks like Kilgallon could get a game this season
But was out of contract in the summer next year and had asked for more money than we were willing to give him - he was doing well but was he worth being paid as much as Brown or O'Shea?? Not in my book. The only reason this turns out to be such a mistake is cos of the Bramble story which has come out today. And if anyone knew that was going to happen then please tell me the lottery numbers for tonight!!
I think there is some validity to the stance that we shouldn't have sold Anton this summer Marcus to be fair. O Shea was still not fully fit, Bramble was just returning from a long injury lay off, Turner hadn't kicked a ball in anger when he was sold and Browns injury record of recent years was a well known fact. It was feasible that at any time, any of these could have been injured or broke down in training and we knew we would be tight on numbers at the back again. We got caught out last season so why fly so close to the sun again? I think to a man we all said £3.5 m was a good price to get but we all said maybe it wasnt necessary as well, as we didn't do anything with the money in the end. If we sold Anton to fund N'Zog then no one would have complained. We sold Anton just for some money imo, not for footballing reasons or a deal maker, which I found strange at the time and has now come back to haunt us a bit although not in a way any of us could have predicted.
In agreement with marcus on this one. I have posted on here many times re anton, he will never be good enough and the money we got for a player in the last year of his contract was a good deal for us. For me he was 6th choice cb behind brown, o'shea, bramble, turner and Laing.
I felt very much in the minority when I was singing Anton's praises before he was sold...Strange how many seem to be saying how much he is going to be a miss now...
I always said, irregardless of todays situation and our injuries, that Anton should NEVER have been sold. I rated him very highly, and with Brown partnering him he looked good, and he looked alot better than Turner and Bramble. I'm afraid to say that again Bruce has f**ked up in selling good players...Kenwyne Jones anyone?? I've watched him for QPR and he looks solid in defence. Also he clearly did NOT want to leave, anyone seen his tweets wishing his luck?? He loved it up here, and was an honest player!
About right, but did we have to sell? did we have to let Gyan go, did we have to sell Cana OR Bent something is not well in our club, might have to ask the toilet cleaner or tea lady at the SOL for an honest answer. at least we would get an answer.
Crazy sale. The guy plays every game, looks (better than) OK with Brown and we get rid. Just another strange one from Mr Bruce.
I thought we were selling Anton to fund a striker, but Anton didnt go till the last minute or so to QPR even though he was there all day, so the cash didnt come through, until it was too late to do anything with it (we had planned to do something with it, but it just wasnt possible with the time we had left).
every player that leaves sunderland turn out better for example take stoke who get behind there team and players. think ive said enuff ill get my coat
