Short article in today's mirror. Starts off with the usual bollocks - "If Modric is sold, Bale will ask for a transfer" etc. Which, I would have thought, was not too difficult to work out.
More interestingly, there are some quotes from Harry along the lines of, "We need to move 4 or 5 players before we can buy" & "we're doing nothing in the transfer mkt at the moment" So, if we had any doubts, it looks as if Levy is sticking to his sell to buy policy.

As he should.
We need to get rid of a substantial number of players in this window, in my opinion.

We could offload Gomes, Hutton, Bentley, Jenas, Keane, Palacios, Dos Santos and Alnwick, plus loan out Naughton, Livermore, Townsend and Khumalo and it would barely affect the squad.
Kranjcar, Bassong, Crouch and Defoe all have question marks over their futures, too.

I agree PNP. The only major problem I can forsee, is Levy's intent on holding out for the top dollar every time. Sometimes that works, sometimes it fails spectularly.

I think it's not the transfer fees that are the problem, money can always be found in the short-term. The way we are run there seems to be a certain pot of money for the players salaries. Levy won't (quite rightly) exceed this as wages are something you cannot get rid of easily (you have to honour a players contract.... and this is what will scupper the likes of City in the long run. I have no problem with them forking out ridiculous amounts for mediocrity but once a player is on stupid wages it is hard to reduce that running cost). So, I feel it's just a question of reducing the wage bill before getting in new players. Playing it safe maybe, but at least we won't go to the wall.

I think sell to buy is a good policy, we won't be able to challenge the top 4 again until we have a new stadium or billionaire willing to pump in silly money so we should at least maintain a stable financial footing.

That's a bit negative Croatia if we can hang on to the bulk of of our first team players, get shot of the deadwood and add 3 class players we have every chance of challenging the top 4.

Totally agree Spurf, Levy will sanction the money for the right player as previous comments from "arry shows.
We don't need a sugar daddy- it only leads to splashing out silly money for an average player.

We can still challenge the top 4 CH, as we did last season, but it'll be hard to maintain that position year-on-year.

Maybe it is a tad negative but we can't pay the wages needed to keep our best players happy and definately can't pay wages to make players choose us over the other teams.

Liverpool are only able to do it at the moment as FSG are willing to pump money in. If Liverpool don't get back in the CL in the next 2-3 seasons then they will be in real trouble and i'd rather not rely on CL football to keep us financially sound.

If the fair play rules kick in as planned then Chelsea & Man C have more to worry about than Spurs IMO. Yes the larger stadium is needed to compete long term but in the short term we are riding high. The coming season will be make or break for Spurs with this squad. Failure to make the top 4 will see us rebuilding the following season probably with a new manager.

At the moment we are on an upward curve but as all Spurs fans know the rollercoaster has some sharp dips.

Quite right, Spurf. I learnt many years ago, that if you were of a nervous disposition, it was better for you not to ne a Spurs supporter.

I don't know the full ifs n buts on the recent WP/Napoli saga, but it seemed DL was up to his tricks holding out for a couple more mill, having been offered double figures, for a player a shadow of his former self. Seemed a blinding offer to me. We've got 10ish days till the squad are due back, so after this player holiday period I hope we can get our business done early for a change.

Just going by media reports NSSS, but it seems that Napoli offered about £7m for Palacios and PSG have offered more, having been bought out by some Arabs.
We've already sold O'Hara, Jenas looks to be on his way, Kranjcar's attracting some interest, Keane's been linked with Blackburn and Fulham and a number of our other players seem to be on the way out.

The window hasn't actually opened properly yet, so I wouldn't get too concerned.

Blimey!, I haven't seen a report with the Napoli figure that low tbh PNP, the ones I've seen were quoting 10 with Levy wanting 12 (hence my frustration with the man!)...I know its the Fail, its just the first one to hand!

My last comment wasn't as much for concern, if anything endorsing your post, I'd still prefer our dealings done this end of the window for a change, instead of another VdV scenario, struggling to keep up with the season.

And the first one with £7m quoted is from the Standard:

No idea which figure is accurate, but if Levy was aware of the PSG interest, then I can understand why he wouldn't settle for a lower figure, just yet.

I agree completely that we should be trying to do our business as early as possible in this window.
Get everything sorted and have a settled side when the season starts, so we can hit the ground running.

I'd missed the PSG interest too, so with that and the player away on hol., it explains the quiet bit. Good to see a few things happening though, the right names aswell...just Keane and Bentley to go for me. I'm almost certain Jol will raid one or two, I'd be surprised if he didn't.

I think that Jol could do worse than to take a couple of our squad players, to be honest.
We have a few that could do a good job for Fulham and probably only produce their best performances when they start regularly.

i suppose the only positive of Harry mouthing off and showing everyone that we are possibly vunerable because we cant buy unless we sell..is that hes letting the likes of Martin Jol possibly know that ther are some of his ex players that he could re sign
