With the recent problem of WYP over reaction, would any members of this forum volunteer to be away support stewards? Supporters working with the club and Police to reduce the cost of supervising large numbers of travelling fans and providing a non aggressive alternative. Much like with demonstrations, the stewards would control the route taken and guide the supporters to the ground, liaising with the Police and home clubs stewards. This allows the Police to concentrate on the potential trouble makers and leave the majority of fans alone. It would dissolve the WYP argument for instance. The benefit to the volunteer would be that they give something back to the wider club and as they are going anyway, it would be just virtually walking with a hi vis tabard on, watch the match and walk back to the meeting point. With a briefing and debrief. I know it has flaws but we have to solve the problems and perhaps it should be the fans who sort this matter out rather than the Club and Police forces.
It might sound good, but at the end of the day it's still saying we need to be supervised and controlled at all times, so no.
I like the idea of having an incognito brief on the bus to catalogue all the illegal tactics of the WYP on occasions such as last night
According to RH tonight, it was the coach driver that called home due to and I quote 'drunken and badly behaved fans'. The coach company, if the report is correct, contacted the WYP police. It wasn't an official supporters club trip.
What problems with fans do we need to solve? We don't need policing by the police or by away match stewards, we are fans not criminals!
Wonder what happened to the 2nd Tiger Travel coach then since it disappeared en route whilst the first one was made to wait until it could wait no more.
Thought if booze was found on the bus it was possible licence withdrawal for the coach company, bus turned back and imbiber(s) nicked? Some may criticise these draconian measures, but if not rowdy songs may have been sung.
Not sure City Agro, I'll give the programme another listen on the BBC iPlayer as I only heard part of it. It was Mike White that reported it.
The police should be accountable to the taxpayer I must admit I'm confused , alcohol and pubs are legally allowed in this country , even for football fans ?
In every town and city there are events that require Police and stewards. Take for example the walk for life, held every year in many places, no one thinks that those taking part are criminals. The WYP play the safety card, I am simply saying that many events have volunteer stewards to reduce the cost of policing, whilst still meeting the needs of providing a safe event.
So you're now going to get outraged that WYP DIDNT arrest anyone? They get called to deal with something by the bus company, and rather than arresting anyone, appear to have had a quiet word and not gone over the top? You think them arresting someone would do us any good at all? Was this an official bus? Was it a private one from the Goole area? Were people pissed and drinking on the bus? Was the driver concerned about his safety? Who actually called the police? What did the police actually do? Noone appears to know all of the facts of this, yet the forum warriors are still foaming at the mouth.
I'm afraid this (t)issue seems to be whooshing over your head, crapper. As the shandy was being drunk, the WYP were called in/decided to stop the bus. Yet no arrests..... This usually means no crime committed, move along please, nothing to see. Begs the question, so why did they bother unless looking for mither?
