In response to various concerns expressed over the past few days, have to say we seem to be getting a bit manic on here sometimes, especially on threads dealing with club ownership, management, ITK stuff and the like. It’s not so much the humourous exchanges / banter people are objecting to but more the anger, personal rows and insults; and the ruination of otherwise perfectly good, interesting threads.

Repeated Thread Topics

Equally as annoying for some (particularly us mods who have to tidy up) is the number of threads being started without first checking to see whether there’s already one running on the same topic.

Discontent

I’m sure you’ll agree that logging-on here of late sometimes reminds you of Piccadilly Circus on a wet Friday night. Loads of flashing lights and very little soul. This is why I keep getting messages via threads and PMs saying people have had enough of it all and are thinking of jacking it in.

Fact is, if we’re going to keep this board of ours worthy of our time and efforts, we need to get a grip. Goldhawk and I have discussed the situation and, whilst not wanting to stage manage your show, think it’s time to give a lead.

Self-Moderation

However, before going a step further and start throwing our weight around, we’d like to remind you of Cyprussyd’s assertion (see ‘Announcement: Welcome to not606’ top left of thread contents page) that the best type of moderation is self-moderation. So next time you feel the urge to **** a fellow member off, count to ten and do the other thing like the rest of us have to.

Also, if you’re thinking of starting a thread, take some responsibility for it and at least control your own contributions as the thing plays out – particularly if your thread is in any way provocative such as the club ownership, management, ITK stuff I mentioned earlier, or inter-club rivalries for example.

‘ITK’ Threads

Thing about ITK-ism is it’s all relative isn’t? Given the time we spend on here, we all a bit ITK one way or another – and then again, none of us are, unless we’re the ones closing deals etc..

Having said that, if you’re reading an ITK thread, do what Goldhawk suggests and take it with a pinch of salt, no matter how strong the OP’s chosen to put it, treat it as you would the horoscope corner in a newspaper. End of the day it’s probably bollocks - but also just a bit of fun. Lighten-up ffs!

If these threads keep presenting as the touch-paper for WWIII, we’re going to have to intervene (what a bore) by spoiling, closing or deleting offending posts or the entirety of the threads themselves - with no questions asked or answered.

Insults and Abuse

Same thing with people trading personal insults or other forms of abuse elsewhere.



That’s about it really. Hope you decide to work with, or better still instead of us to bring this board back to reasonable levels of sanity and enjoyment.

As I mentioned to Wubba (WBA2QPR3) the other day, there was a time not so long ago when we’d debate and agree to differ on something or the other – and end up discussing what we’d be having for dinner later. Way to go, no?!

I dont really see a problem, I know Ive only joined recently but I joined this forum because there was a lot less bitching than others, no over moderation (cough FI cough) although Id like to see ITKs get a weeks ban for everything they get wrong thats stated as a fact. It might stop them winding people up and thinking twice about posting crap.

I've had a great QPR week with a great present from someone v close to NW and a chat with him made me realise the level of personal abuse and frankly stress he'd had recently and to some degree there is too much of that on here too

Sad that you have had to make this thread a second time. It's not long ago if my memory serves me correct that you had to bring up this very issue.

If I have stepped on someones toes i would like to know please, either from them or the mods in a PM if you wish.

If by Piccadilly Cirkus and flashing lights you're addressing my constant newsfeds I'm happy to stop it. It's just that for me this site (not606) is all I need and after Northolt left and the news dried in I'd thought I would lend a helping hand if others saw it the same way. I have no problem with being more selective and post more personal threads if thats the problem.

It's easy to feel that this thread is aimed at oneself, sure I'm not alone in this. So maybe some examples would help Brix?

 

NorwayRanger i'm sure it's not aimed at you in particular but at everyone as a whole.Now that Northy's gone we need all the info posts we can get,yours are of high quality in my opinion so please don't feel the need to stop posting them.

Have to agree with that Hammersmith; Norway's info threads are prolific, of high quality and his short pithy comments at the end are often funny and to the point. I hate naming names because as soon as you do you're sure to leave somebody out but there are many people putting up info at present and I think that's great. Yes the ITK threads for some reason seem to bring out the bitch in some, for the life of me I've never understood why, and those threads can get personally abusive, but they're often very funny too, with plenty of humour watering the invective down.

 

Stop it Norway! I don't know what you're imagining but no one has ever complained about you (and if they did, they'd have me on their case!). Seriously, I'm really grateful for your contributions on here and all the news you get in for us. Top man imo - especially on the late night shift!

 

Thanks Brix, agreed, keep up the good work. Just had chicken and rice for lunch (5hrs behind UK here)! I enjoy checking in here and putting up the odd post, thank you to everyone who contributes. Come on the Rssssssssss

I truely believe that 99% of all comments on this forum are fine and non offensive,rarely some threads can become a tad fractious but i don't believe there is any real malice in these comments.It really isn't that different from any normal conversation you'd have with anyone face to face in the real world.Too many people take things too seriously,after all it's just football banter and there are far more pressing things in the world for us to worry about.If people feel the need to leave the forum then by all means let them,this is an outlet for us fans to vent our views about all things QPR and as such all opinions should be valued.It is not compulsory for us all to attend at all times,but with members chipping in as often as they can it still gives all of us many hours of pleasure.Everyone on this forum deserves recognition for their input and i look forward to reading more posts from everyone concerned.

And Brix, there is a perfectly legitimate explenation to the late night shifts. I have recently quit my day job and are currently unemployed

 

At the end of the day we're all QPR fans (I hope) and we should draw a line under recent events.

With regards to multiple threads - sometimes original threads are on page 3 or 4, etc., so can easily be missed.

Of course we're not all going to have the same opinion, but forums are all about opinions.

To be honest I think some people can be a bit over-the-top in how they react to certain threads, particularly the ITK type. As has been mentioned previously, take all such info as speculation rather than 'gospel' and you won't go far wrong. There's nothing wrong with this site that a bit of good humour won't put right. The mods are doing fine and many have jumped in to try and fill the gap left by Northy's departure. If it ain't broke don't fix it!...

BTW enjoyed a cracking rib-eye steak in Wetherspoon's tonight, mine and the missus, two meals a Pinot Grigio and a G&T for under £14. Cushty!...

 

When things are stated as facts, some people believe them and get their hopes up. Then when it doesnt happen they start to get bitchy. i dont believe any of them anyway unless theyve always been proved correct and theres only 1 or 2 across all boards and none on here.

Promise your misses youre going to take her out for a meal and then dont do it and youll see the same reaction!

 

One question Brix. By insults and abuse are you including that of players, ex players, managers and ex managers in here? Or are we all free to throw the worst abuse at them? For me the players and managers have always been subject to at least as bad as abuse as is hurled between fellow posters, and they cannot throw it back so easily! I ask becasue I do not see that this abuse of them has got worse the last few days, its always been like this as long as I've been on here. Personally, I think we should cut out the worst abuse of them too. But I agree with Hammersmith, we should not be too thin skinned either!

 

Valen: as a mod, not my call - it's YOUR board and an expression of YOUR creativity. As a member, I'd like to see a thread proposing what we're doing and how we're going to do it and letting us add our suggestions.

But sounds like a great idea - and elnino's earlier add-on on your original thread sounded interesting too.

 

Don't want to make your head too big Norway, but I'd like to add what a great job you're doing putting up new threads with pertinent/ amusing comments.

Please don't stop, and that goes for all the posters! Neither Brix nor I have all the time that Northolt devoted to this site, so it's up to you lot. Your site. Mods just try to oil the wheels a bit when needed.

ITK don't worry me....some of them could be true, some aren't...it is just more info...I am intelligent enough to read it all, and make my own mind up. CERNY I really enjoy your posts. Don't stop.

Rivalry, don't care....most other boards love their team as much as we do ours....so respect to them too. I am keeping clear of the Chelsea threads at the moment, because I don't want to slag anyone off whats the point....But that is my decision

Insults.... whats the point....I apologise to Brixton for questioning his gender...a joke, but there again as one of the few/only girls here...Brixton Please take it as a compliment.
