Secret Scout gives opinion on Liverpool target and Bristol City defender Lloyd Kelly
A national newspaper gives their say.

Bristol City defender Lloyd Kelly is a wanted man by Liverpool.

The Premier League giants are said to be keen on the young Robins player, who can feature at either full-back or left-back.

Kelly, who has trained with the England first team, is tipped to go on to play at the highest level, but can he do that right now?

The Daily Mail sent their 'Secret Scout' to a game in order to watch the Robins defender, who made his England Under-21 debut last month.

Read below for what the scout had to say.
A strong left-footer, he is making progress in the Championship but needs to gain a regular role in the position most suited to him.

He has been playing as a left back but I saw him play as a left centre back.

I like the way he played forward passes when not under pressure. I did not see him pass the ball under pressure, an important attribute to have, as this was a relatively comfortable afternoon for his team.

Nor did he attempt anything too ambitious, no 'Hollywood' cross-field passes to the right touchline. He covered well and gave good insurance to his main centre back.

Kelly has long legs and was able to challenge by throwing out his left foot while staying balanced. He did not go to ground as it was not necessary. His positioning was always good enough to avoid him having to make a last-ditch tackle.

He was constantly aware of developing attacks, moving sideways and co-ordinating with his back players on the proverbial 'piece of string'.

    What he needs...
Overall, he coped in the air but needs to assess his distances more carefully when attacking the ball. Also, he may have closed down more quickly on two occasions when he allowed a forward the chance of a shot.

A shade more urgency was required and the danger for him may be complacency as, on this occasion, the game looked to come to him fairly easily.

But he will learn not to take chances and appears to have the right ingredients. Given regular first-team opportunities, he certainly has a chance.

Lloyd Kelly has signed a new three-year contract at Ashton Gate until the summer of 2021, with the option of a further year.

While I have no doubt that Premiership clubs are looking at Lloyd I am surprised by the Liverpool connection considering that have a relative young and very decent defenders in Van Dijk, Robertson, Gomez and Alexander-Arnold as well as world cup finalist Lovren. Not sure if he would get ahead of any of those.

Top clubs are always on the lookout for the next generation of talent, as they should - just because you're successful today doesn't mean you will be tomorrow if you rest on your laurels.

It seems as though Kelly may well be the finest prospect yet out of an academy becoming increasingly prolific - hopefully we can get to enjoy him for a few years before he decides to climb the career ladder. Would be a shame if he simply swapped us for a spot on the bench somewhere.

Yeah I have a bad feeling he's off in January. Not just because of the rumours but because of a few of LJ's comments over the past few weeks. Hopefully we command a good fee for him.

If he keeps his feet on the ground can be a top top player, what a dream for any young footballer to play under Jurgen Klopp if rumours are true.
