Signed on a 5 year contract (Pozzos give long ones so they can keep new players in the "network")? http://www.watfordfc.com/news/article/150601-watford-fc-sebastian-prodl-watford-fc-2477080.aspx Very experienced and played at the top level.
This was an expected one. Good start - will the other signings come in a rush now? Or will they drip-feed us over the next month?
Looks to be a good solid signing.... and we will need real strength and experience in this area next season I have no doubt.....
I am waiting for one of the keyboard warriors to start with "He has no Premiership experience". Give me strength.
ö Will they have one to put on a shirt in the club shop as I cannot remember a player with an umlaut in his name before?
Dániel Tőzsér is almost umlaut on his O. Twofold diacritic looks like umlaut and is only in Hungarian so is called hungarumlaut.
Would be good to get a view from Cologne on this one. I am reading that Werder fans did not want him to leave. Seems to tick all the right boxes - welcome on board Sebastian.
Never thought a Watford player would be called Sebastian. Mind you I never thought a Watford player would be called Troy, or Gabriele, or Odion or... In my youth they were called Johnny, or Ken, or Cliff, or Barry, or Keith. Trouble was, none of them had Premiership experience.
What chance of signing Sebastian Prödl's cousin as well. Viktoria Schnaderbeck plays for FC Bayern Frauen, perhaps a useful addition for our ladies team. Foxes Talk has had a little fire about this, how can a footballer sign for a team with no manager, how could we not pay more salary than Watford, 5 year contract are Watford mad, we didn't want him anyway.
I have heard that a lot don't want him to leave but they appear to have mixed feelings about whether he will cut it in the premiership. On his website he refers to us as a London club ! 'Es macht mich sehr stolz euch mitteilen zu können, daß ich in Zukunft ein Hornet bin und mein neues ''Wohnzimmer'' das legendare Stadion an der Vicarage Road in London ist' Translates as - It makes me very proud to be able to tell you all that I will be a Hornet in future and that my new living room is the legendary Vicarage Road stadium in London ! Hope he manages to find us ok.
Afternoon Hornets. Canary in peace. Prödl eh? Cracking signing. I am somewhat envious. Ich wünsche ihm alles Gute in der nächsten Saison.
I've only seen him live once at Cologne v Werder. However he is good in the air, very good at set pieces and always gives 100%, at least has done for Bremen. No twinkle toes with the ball at his feet - but generally solid and does his job well.
http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/watfordfc/watfordfcnews/13314244._/ Article says that above - maybe its been felt we just need a defender who does just that rather than anyone who tries to be too fancy which is a risk against the likes of Rooney and Aguero who will put pressure on our defence much more than most Championship strikers would
The article contains a bit of worrying info : “I would say his lack of pace is his major weakness. We know how quick Premier League strikers are but it is nothing he won’t have faced in the Bundesliga. “I think the key is getting the right players around him. If you surround him with a few quicker players you will get the best out of him. His passing can also be a bit iffy too.” Hopefully if that is known it can be managed and his experience and heading will be enough
