According to Dan Bentley season ticket sales have gone through the roof. Nige has given us hope-onwards and upwards
Apparently 12k+ sold so get a few players out and a few in and 15k should be achievable. Especially if the signings are decent.
Pearson, allegedly, was heard to say last week in a Nailsea pub that he wants rid of 8. But nobody wants them. Tough job if true.
Some will be out of contract so it doesn’t matter if anyone wants them or not. It’s the old problem of shifting on the high earners who don’t feature - and they won’t simply hand in their resignations. We might be able to loan them out and then at least have SOME of their wages covered - but Nigel wasn’t keen on that recently when Cardiff came knocking and enquired about Wells.
Did Cardiff want to buy him? , I thought they were just looking to loan him. I’d sell him, but I wouldn’t loan him to a direct rival.
It was a loan - but it would have paid towards his cost As it was he stayed with us, NOT playing - and drawing his salary. Not wanting him to go to a rival was what NP said at the time.
Your comment said; It’s the old problem of shifting on the highearners who don’t feature - and they won’tsimply hand in their resignations. I merely pointed out Cardiff had offered to have him on loan, so it wouldn’t have addressed the issue of offloading him, as it was we ended up above them, who knows what would have happened had we loaned him to them. Had they offered to buy him, and therefore addressed the issue of offloading him, that may have tipped the balance, but just partially offloading his salary for 6 months was not really worth the risk imo.
Fair enough - although I respectfully disagree, because most of the general concerns that people have about the 'mess' that the previous regime left is that there is no money - and in particular our ability to sign players is hampered by a couple of 'blockers' (Palmer and Wells) who are on huge wages but hardly ever play. I would say that's a 'dead asset' - if NP doesn't want to play them then lets loan them out and free up SOME wages rather than paying them £30k per week (??) just to sit on their arses simply so that a rival can't have them.
Agree it’s a balance, I think with Cardiff at the time we were both mindful of possibly being pulled into a relegation scrap and didn’t want to do them any favours, if they didn’t believe Wells would help them in the endeavour they wouldn’t have tried to take him on loan, hence why I agree with not letting him go, also if one of our strikers became injured we could have been regretting letting him go.
