* PROUD. We have our club back. * Mick and Terry, superb. * McGoldrick injury left us shoft of quality. * Moving forwards in the right direction nicely. Another summer of recruitment, recruit in the right areas and without doubt we'll be top 6 again. COYB!
my summary would be punched above our weight mainly due to a good workrate, commitment and organisation skills but let style and flair suffer as a result.
Tried hard, but glaring deficiencies in all areas major investment needed. Can't see us replicating this season without ME's cheque book As good as he was this season can't see Murphy having another next year Tabb Ming Smith are just three that comes to mind who should be replaced
" Tried hard, but glaring deficiencies in all areas major investment needed. Can't see us replicating this season without ME's cheque book " Why not? If we ( okay it's not football manager/ easy ) sign a RB / Winger / Winger / CM on a free transfer of as good quality in them positions as Bru/ McGoldrick/ Berra/ Sears on free transfers, then I don't see why we need to splash ££££££ on signings. Very interested to see our summer business. I'm going to assume - * Mings will be sold. * McGoldrick may not sign another new contract so could be sold. * Think Bishop will stay but the vultures will be lurking. Hoping Cressy goes for massive £££££ so we get some ££££.
I would say that we were.........hard working, playing to our strengths with all the players believing in the managers philosophy and pulling in the same direction. Also we were underestimated at every turn. I see no reason that MM can't improve on this season like he has every other season he has been here. As for investment on players from Evans......as long as Mick is happy then I'm happy............if it's freebies so we have more money available for wages then so be it.
I just will enjoy listening and occasionally watching a totally committed, loyal, enthusiastic team of 11 players with hearts of gold...whose pockets and paypackets are not gold-lined! Only 2, maybe 3 fresh players needed. Enjoy the summer everyone and see you in August!
We would've done better if we didn't get the injury to McG. We'll go again next year and be around the top six again all season.
It was a season that was beyond my expectations so I see positives everywhere, a great bunch of lads mostly cast offs and a couple of boys that gate crashed the play offs and gave a great account of themselves while it was 11 v 11, I haven't seen the first half stats but anyone could see we gave the £31M boys a hard time and even equalised with ten men. The fact we have a team that will go through brick walls for each other is down to the management team of MM and TC and given some cash we will surely improve next season. There were over 2000 more people at Portman Rd than there was at Mutant Central so the support base is there if the team continues to perform in the higher levels of the division, once again that's down to the management team for turning out a competitive team, so for me theres positives everywhere. Just think what will happen if The Budgies don't get promoted, I wonder how many of their leading players wont fancy another season in the Championship?
- Firstly, it's been a pleasure to witness play-off football at Portman Road this season after a decade without. Hopefully we can replicate that achievement next season, or maybe even go one better. Our football is often perceived as being 'long ball' or 'negative', and that stereotype has rang true of late. However, our football and form between September and December was encouraging, hopefully we can go back to that next term and avoid the inconsistency of early 2015. - He gets a bit of stick on here, but I still believe Mick McCarthy is the right man for the job. Yes, eventually a move towards a more progressive coach, with an attractive playing philosophy, would be ideal. Yet implementing that strategy would require a squad overhaul and, ideally, a bit of spending power. I believe that in football we should reward success with patience. McCarthy has more than delivered in this campaign, and by providing him with a few million to invest in areas where we need freshening up, I hope we can build. Keeping the nucleus of this competitive and loyal bunch of players is imperative. - Regarding player performances, kudos to Daryl Murphy, who has had a phenomenal campaign. Credit also to Freddie Sears, who came into the side mid-season and contributed to our impressive league standing. Christophe Berra, Luke Chambers, and Tyrone Mings have, on balance of the season, put in some brilliant defensive performances. Teddy Bishop looks like a promising player, hopefully Mick keeps the faith and he remains at the club. Carl Skuse, as much as I have doubted him, has done better than expected this term, so credit to him. - Regarding changes, we need a new right-back. Push Chambers in the middle of defence alongside Berra, with Smith at cover. Chambers has done a good job in a position where he has had to adapt, but his forward play and crossing can undermine his performance. Mings, a player who is still developing, is a promising individual. Ideally, we'd keep him and he would improve. However, should a club come in with a silly offer, then we should probably accept and reinvest it in midfield. We need a couple of wingers and at least one central midfielder. - Play 4-3-3. A front line of Murphy, Sears, and McGoldrick would frighten any Championship defence, especially considering their goalscoring record over the past couple of years. Yeah, I know it said 'in a nutshell', but you guys know me too well.
Spot on Nuggets, we often get called a tough physical side who intimidate other teams, Berra was the first Town player to be sent off in 85 games, I think that stat should compare favourably with any other team in the Football League.
No, you get called a long ball side (that's derogatory by the way, it seems to be a badge of honour with you lot) that offers nothing to the promotion of the Championship.
Try not to rise to the bait of this utter plum too much! Absolute waste of time trying to get anything constructive on the go where this person is involved.
Again Westlake your not actually facing the truth in what I'm saying. Bobby Robson will be turning in his grave as to what Ipswich Town have resorted too. Long ball is not the way forward for you. My utter contempt for your club has far more to do with your playing style than the fact it is Ipswich Town.
You're - come on son, basic English. Carra- for the final time I have said we do play direct - simply because we have to. If we'd played passing footy this season, we'd have come 16th. Don't you dare even mention Bobby Robson. Your lot - are the only club I have known to not join in with our chants of " One Bobby Robson " - absolutely disgusting. Lets look at our league positions under Magilton and Jewell playing passing football........... When were we last in the play offs? 10 years ago. HMMMM. Turns out long ball IS the way forward for us as it gets results. Another very THICK football " expert " aren't you. Also, I find it laughable how people refer to clubs as " long ball merchants " as if there is something wrong with it. I thought there were many styles in football. It's a results industry, our results are good so how the hell it's an insult is beyond me. Laughable. I actually forgot how much I hate your lot - posters like you really make me remember. I hope Boro smash you.
I don't think Bobby Robson would be endorsing what you have become, its far more derogatory than us not joining in your chants. You are long ball, not direct. Get it right.
