Survive comfortably, I don't think you'll score as many goals though (thank god). Maybe 12-10.

As for us I'd be very happy with a comfortable top ten finish, and a cup run.

I think we'll score more. Carroll was only here for about 11 goals. Nolan was here for 12. We ended up scoring well over 50, so that's 30+ coming from other players, and when those other players were the likes of:

Ameobi
Lovenkrands
Best
Jonas
Tiote
S Taylor

And now we have the likes of:

Ba
Cabaye
Ben Arfa
Gosling
Vuckic
Obertan
S Taylor
Sammi Ameobi
Best
Jonas
Tiote
Marveaux
And a probable new striker

The type of players are there for a hell of a lot more goals. I think they'll comfortably fill the void left by Nolan and Carroll. Not by much, but enough so we score more this season compared to last.

I don't think most of the players you mentioned will score many goals.

And although Ba might make up for Carroll, who's gonna take Nolans role or do you think you will play differently this year?

Ben Arfa should take Nolan's goal role considering he's playing in the hole just behind the striker. Nolan was a CM player, but he drifted into that position to score goals. Ben Arfa will be in that position permanently.

The other players mentioned probably won't score many goals, but they should be able to easily make up for the void left by 2 players who didn't REALLY score a huge number. Bloody Ameobi managed 6.

In fact, I made a thread a while back about how important Nolan's goals were. It turns out that most of them were simply adding to a win we already had. A few of them secured some draws, and I think only one secured a win. Without his goals, we still would have stayed up, albeit quite a bit further down the table.

Cabaye and Barton (if he stays) both have keen eyes for goals, so I'd expect them to get at least 5 each, probably more.

S Taylor should get a few corner goals

Obertan, Jonas and Tiote should bag a few between them all

Marveaux, who knows?

And we'll have a new striker coming in, so unless he's absolutely **** and worse than Ameobi and Lovenkrands, he should bag at least 5-10.

Things ain't so bad.

Yeah, you'll probably score more than us as we never destroy teams.

"Ameobi managed 6"

I wouldn't be surprised if the bastard scored 6 against us alone!

I look at this in two ways.

The Good- Since Bruce took over we have improved by three places each season I noticed that when the paper I was reading had trajectories over the past three seasons, and it was only Man City who had a better rate of improvement than us over that period (as in we've not dropped at all either). I think that's a fantastic stat, and despite the fact that we do like a good moan when times are hard (what fans don't?!) this vindicates all the work that Bruce has done, for me. Solid, rapid, quantifiable progress.

The Bad- I think anything less than a euro spot and Short will bin Bruce. A big shout, and although you may well be right safcol, I think this would be borderline ridiculous. I'd be happy with anywhere from 10 upwards. Sure, European football would be amazing and I'd love it, but we've still only been in this league a few years. I know that progress breeds expectation, but I'd love to think Short is more savvy than that. We had a plan for steady, realistic progress up the league, from relegation candidates, to mid table, to top ten, and maybe eventually Europe. Bruce has delivered season after season- 3 places a year is fantastic- and if he fails to deliver European football, there's no way we should sack him.

If he makes 7th this year and fails to make 4th the year after, would Short look at it in the same way? Top 8 = tough crowd. I'd be very happy to attack it slowly, we've waited so long since our last European games, we're in no rush!

pretty much spot on that.

No way will Short/Quinn drop bruce if we dont get a euro spot. Short, imo, will be satisfied with a top ten finish without a horrific slump in the middle.

Top ten (preferably 9th and up) and a good cup run ! Been screaming out for a good frun in a cup for years and years and years, and even if we did what stoke did, I.e got to the final and lost, least we could say we beat alot o other teams, and that would get us into europe, which would be an added bonus. However, i shall take it as it comes
