For Burton to beat convincingly after they have gone 16 games without a win is not good enough for promotion. That is a fact. We are now 7 points off the playoffs with 7 games to go, if we don't go undefeated from now until the end of the season we will not get there. Very poor tonight and I think that marks the end of the Hessenthaler reign, as no promotion means no job next year in my eyes. No matter what he says now it cannot disguise the fact that we have gone into a must win game with no real game plan apart from punting it to Obita and Kuffour and hoping they come up with something amazing on their own. I know people will say I'm being defeatist but I say I'm just being sensible, judging by how we played today there is no chance we will get the necessary points to get into the play offs and will in fact see us move further backwards as a club, a hallmark of Gillingham under Hessenthaler. If anyone still thinks we can go up still I wish I shared your optimism but to me and I'm sure many other like minded people. The season is over and therefore, on a more positive note, so is Hessenthaler's time in charge as manager.
Alwaysright, what are you trying to say? That we should all believe that despite playing poor football with a poor manager we will suddenly find 7 points from nowhere to catch up with Cheltenham and Oxford leading to us getting in the play offs. Once getting there (still playing bad football under a bad manager mind) we will beat the likes of crawley (who battered us last week and should of won by much more ) and be promoted to League 1 (playing the same brand of poor football) and be runaway winners. Eventually getting to the Premier League after 3 consecutive promotions and Hess winning manager of the decade giving his reasoning as 'well i thought we would just lump it up really and hope something happens'. -rant over-
so much for this mini league hess....he needs to go ! we missed out on the play offs last season by goal difference, yet this season is surely going to be a worse outcome for us....HESS PLEASE GO NOW AND TAKE YOUR SHADOW...you have idea and are deluded if you think next season will be any different for us !
exactly right if we don't get the same points tally as cheltenham or oxford this season we will of gone backwards YET AGAIN under hessenthaler. He says he cares for the club and i dont doubt that but if he really did love it he would have walked long ago.
My view? A quiz - Complete this well known phrase or saying - "They think it's all over .... " Even Lazarus couldn't get us to rise into the playoffs.
Tim - sorry to be pedantic - but it was Jesus that did the raising of Lazarus. ( you know I'm alwaysright ) gfclukey - rant over already ! - you've got no passion for your club (joking) I have voiced a small example of my sentiments on Hoadie's match day thread.
Sorry to have had a rant but it seemed that a pub team (with half the players still hungover) could go and turn burton over with ease but we struggle to stop them from looking top class! To be honest I would be happier if the lads had been out on the lash last night at least then they would have had an excuse for being so utterly useless this evening.
GFCLUKEY you are not a defeatist,,,,you are a REALIST, not only are we hoping we can on an unbeaten run,,,,,we are also relying on other teams to go on a bad one,,,hmm cant see it happening myself, as for the "mini league" i think the young kids should be in til the end of the season so they get a good run of games & can only benefit the team for next season, what have we got to lose?? after all they cant do any worse than some of the senior players,
You are, of course, right. I admit that alcohol had been taken, and I was trying to paraphrase the Sid Wadell quote without the hassle of looking it up. Also it might be wrong, but possibly slightly less religiously sensitive. But that's another area altogether! And they still aren't getting into the playoffs.
If I had posted my thoughts on here last night, I would have gone in to a rant. So many hours later and a little calmer for those interested...http://www.gillingham.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=277656
That unbeaten run certainly isn't going to get going now. The set-up had their wake up call after so many successive defeats and failed to act convincingly. Time for a change.
I started last week that the season is over so Im glad that now many more agree. I've had a lot of rants about Hess on here so I will sum it up shortly for ease of reading: Scally's statement at start of last season - Anything other then promotion is a failure Hessy's achievements in last 2 seasons - Missed play-offs both times = Hessy has to go for the good of our Club. We're facing another mass exodus, thanks for being a legend of a player Hess, but your not right for us at this time and if you love the Gills as much as we do then you have to do the right thing and leave.
We are not going to make up 7 points in 7 games unfortunately! We are not consistent enough to do that! What worries me is the amount of money Scally has put into this season, what funds are going to be available? Can we keep the likes of Kuffour? Most importantly we need to get an experienced lower league manager UTG
OK.........who? No silly suggestions, sensible ones please. And remember Stimson came in as a successful lower / non league manager who had won the FA Trophy on more than one occasion.
Steve Evans? I think he wants the job considering how he is always very complimentary about the club in interviews considering how much abuse he got last tuesday! If crawley go up then maybe not but if they don't I wouldn't be surprised to see him throw his name into the hat.
