Chart listing % of season missed by Southampton players. List to right of chart puts Saints 8th on the injury list. We've always been one of the better sides for injuries with a good record of keeping players fit. Without analysis, not clear whether we are having more injuries or whether long term injuries to players like Gallagher and JRod are putting our stats out of joint.

Title winning sides, or any side achieving huge success, has to remain relatively injury and suspension free. Football history is littered with teams who were predicted to win everything but won nothing because half the team were out injured all season.

I don't recall us getting hamstring injuries in previous seasons.

Didn't our head physio [or some such title to do with players health] push off to ManU earlier this season..?

Mo Gimpel is still and has always been the man behind the medical department.

Someone on TV (can't remember who) said Morgan would be the first one back. However, we mustn't rush him....if he misses a couple more games, so be it.

But someone did leave for ManU. I remember because we were told not to panic because it wasn't Mo Gimpel.

Morgan should be able to return to full training before Swansea. If everything goes on schedule of course. May not start, but I'd think he may be involved in some manner to get him up to speed again.

Matt Radcliffe, one of the first team physios and part of Mo Gimpel's staff. Just a spoke on the wheel, perfectly replaceable but I believe he worked close with Shaw last year so there's the connection.

Ah yes, Mo. Well, it's just coincidence then.

Supposedly Saints had the fewest games lost last year due to injury from soft tissue damage.

That's probably not the case this year as Schneiderlin, Alderweireld and now Wanyama have all had muscle issues. Still, it could easily just be luck.

How do you quantify games lost due to injuries? And I assume ligament damage is grouped in with soft tissue?

You may not be picked anyway, but games lost must be any game you are unavailable for because you are listed as injured. I suppose this may be underestimated if a player has a minor injury which means the manager doesn't select him but doesn't say he is injured.
