Sean O'Driscoll focusing on the future after a season to forget... please log in to view this image HEAD coach Sean O'Driscoll says he has already banished the disappointment of relegation and is looking to a brighter future as he sets about the work of rebuilding his Bristol City squad. O'Driscoll was unable to halt the slide that culminated in City dropping out of the Championship on the back of what was a disappointing season at Ashton Gate. City, as a result, return to League One after a six-year absence, but the head coach remains upbeat about the future of a club that is trying to implement a change in culture. "I've been at clubs on the verge of going out of business, under transfer embargoes or unable to pay their players," said the former Bournemouth, Doncaster Rovers and Nottingham Forest boss. "There isn't much I haven't seen during my time in the game, so I see being at this club, at this particular time, as a great opportunity. "Bristol City is a well-respected club and is stable in a sense of having owners that have a clear vision of what they want to do going forward. "The downside is obviously that we are not in the division we want to be in. We've had to take relegation on the chin, but everybody is looking forward to what will hopefully be a successful season. "We were all well aware when we first walked in that we had to try to arrest the slide, not just on the playing side but across the club as a whole. "There is an ongoing restructure of the whole place, that has started with the academy, where we are trying to put something in place that will stand the test of time. "The process has started and the test for us now will be whether or not we can stick to those principles when the pressure is on, because things are not always going to be on an upward spiral. "We've already had a massive bump by getting relegated, but that was probably something that was coming, if that's not being too negative, because the decline has been gradual. We all have to take responsibility for that, but it is in the past now and we all have to look to the future. We're trying to change the dynamic of the club as well as the way it is perceived. "That is going to take the efforts of everybody involved, and that is the message we are trying to get across." http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/Sean-O...eason-forget/story-19102489-detail/story.html
The bit about being unable to halt the slide continues to bother me in his comments because I believe there still was time after he came aboard to right the ship. I think the rot was set in when he arrived and perhaps it was a lost cause but nonetheless we sat back and accepted our fate and here we are.
