Anyone on here use this company for tools (there you go a again <doh>) - in particular their own brand Titan products?

I've had multiple corded and battery powered tools over the years ranging through De Walt, Makita, Bosch and even top end Milwaukie, but I've got to say the "cheap" Titan gear I've bought this past few years is massive value for money.

Yes, It's Chinese stuff, but then again a lot of the "brands" source items from there anyway these days. Beauty of Screwfix is the price and no quibble 2 year guarantee - just take it back (I've never had to) and they'll give you a brand new one no questions asked.

Already got their corded hedge trimmer, pole trimmer and chainsaw, but this time I needed to replace my corded lawn mower and strimmer (getting on a bit like me). Fed up with trailing extension leads around, so I took advantage of a recent Screwfix promotion. I opted for their Titan Li-ion battery powered models. A 5Ah lawnmower and a 2Ah strimmer - both batteries interchangeable between tools and 200 quid the lot. I used some of my B365 City winnings.........<laugh>

Only one battery and charger with each so I thought I'd get a spare 5 Ah as a backup for the mower at just under 40 quid's worth. They'd emailed me a limited time 10 quid voucher for the mower/strimmer purchase but it was only useable on purchases of over £40. <doh>

Had look at their other Titan Li-ion gear and found a 3kg SDS drill/breaker on limited time promotion down from £140 to £80. Now a pal of mine has one of these - I've used it to fix some fence posts to concrete block walls and it's awesome. It comes complete with a 5 Ah Li-ion battery and charger in the kit so I went for it and also used my £10 voucher. So for 70 quid, got my "spare" battery (40 quid), a spare charger (20 quid's worth) and a fantastic SDS drill/breaker for an extra tenner.

All delivered to my door the next day by Parcelforce - life doesn't get much better for a simple soul like me.

I had a milti-tool petrol Titan when we first got the small holding.1 motor unit then separate attachments. Strimmer, mini chain saw, hedge trimmer. Think that was it.
Anyway, hammered them for the first year or so. Bits started seizing up through neglect / lack of maintenance. As things broke I bought separates. Got it cheaply, but it wasn't 'heavy duty'.
Most things we have now are petrol driven. Can't use corded electrical as the extension lead isn't long enough<laugh>. I do have a generator that I'll take places, but anything that has a high start up current trips it.
I have a Makita drill and wrecking saw that are battery powered. Thinking of getting the hedge trimmer for tidying up bits of hedge the contractor can't get at. Behind the stables, around telegraph poles and stays, and a couple road signs. Can't decide on petrol or battery. If I go battery it'll be Makita as I have a charger and batteries.

De Walt all the way for me Sparks, I've pretty much used them all over years fitting out boats, planes and trains and now planes again over 40 years inc apprenticeship. While some of the cheaper ones rock for a couple of months with heavy use the motor will burn out sooner than others. Whilst working on trains I found a cupboard full of new De Walt batteries and chargers which obviously swings things heavily for me. Mostly I use a De Walt drill and a impactor for a few upgrades loft conversions/decking etc on our family homes and they are pretty much bomb proof. I've just purchased a De Walt extended cordless mini chainsaw for our small orchard as the cabled ones struggle after a while cutting the branches back (I wouldn't have bothered if I had to buy batteries as they would have doubled my initial outlay).... But then if the chinese stuff is cheap and it has a two year warranty, what have you got to lose

I don't prefer the De Walt drills just because I found some freebies, I actually like the grip and the balance even though they may be slightly more solid (heavier) than others and they actually stand up on the batteries and not topple over onto your mug of tea like some of the other top heavy ones

Turk - it was De Walt all the way for me too when I was working - had every concievable drill, circular saws, angle grinders and the rest over time. In fact, I even started going down the cordless route with believe it or not Black and Decker 9.6V battery drills back in the 70's (or was it 80's :emoticon-0138-think).

When B&D bought out De Walt and rebranded their own professional gear to that name in the 90's, I switched to them. Initially with their 12V tools and eventually 18V across the range with the occasional 36V for years. Trouble was eventually I was equipping more than 20 blokes with full sets of the gear - massive outlay <doh>.

When I packed it in back in about 2008, I collected it all back in, took it home and sat on it for a year. I then sold a lot of the used stuff quietly on ebay - raked in more than £20k over time, but don't tell the taxman...........<whistle>

If you're using them every day for work and give them a pasting, then it makes sense to go for the likes of them, Makita or Milwaukee. In my circumstances now, and I suspect many more on here, it's occasional use for me and the sheer value of the Titan stuff is hard to ignore. The no questions swap out if one does goes bang (and it hasn't happened to me yet) is a huge bonus.

Paying a lot of money domestically for something to sit in the garage most of the year is just brand snobbery.

I completely agree with you, Screwfix would have done their due diligence thing on the quality of the tools they are promoting so I hardly think you would be sold flimsy or even dangerous tools (shoddy electrical) so I will probably do the same soon as my strimmer and lawnmower are ten years old and about to retire themselves
I'm pretty sure I had my lawnmower using Tiger tokens at the local Esso garage <yikes>

I remember I picked up a quality garden spade in the 70's with Greenshield stamps from the Swansea Greenshield shop.

Still got it and it's the only good thing I ever got from Jackland.
