Our targets for transfer hardy appear to be extensive or varied - sticking with Holland and Spain. But I would have thought even in that narrow field they might have spotted and tried to get Graziano Pelle. I've seen him play a couple of times when he didn't score but looked very good. Last season he could have been bought quite cheaply and I think Feyrnood have agreed £5 million for a permanent move when the transfer window eventually opens . 6' 4" 27 and got a hatful last season ... would have loved to have seen him in front of Michu. Anyway ... there must be competent forwards who can score goals outside Spain and Holland !
There are a large number of possible players - we can't be looking at every one, since every player we focus on must be watched multiple times against different opposition to very their skill, termperament, adaptability, flexibility and so on. Also their agent and current contract structures must factor into it.
Somebody must have scouted Shechter, which must ask serious questions about the veracity of said scout.
N club gets it 100% correct in the transfer market including us. Shector was a wild card that didn't pay off the same might have happened to Chico and Michu, there were enough people on 606 thinking Chico was a liability when he first played for us but he worked out fine. Lamar and Itay didn't work out so well but they were "lucky dip" loan deals . In the premier league you tend to get what you pay for so its no surprise Laudrup only pulled 3,5 rabbits out of the hat instead of 5 which some people including some board memebers seem to think that's what he should have done ! .. The worrying thing for me is that the Swans have been one of the luckiet teams in terms of manager selections and low transfer signings that come good, I think we all know the likelihood of us maintaining our winning streak in this area isn't going to last forever, maybe that's why Laudrup wants to pay for the finished article and not rely on gambles that have a greater chance of not working. Of course we could pay big money and get unlucky but the chances are that a decent player in our system will thrive, if DG can score in our system im sure a £7/8 m pound player would too. The beauty of football is that you never quite know how things will work out. Caution can cost you as much as gambling though. If we had decided to offer Hoffinheim £6m up front fo Siggy instead of getting him on loan then we would be looking at least double that now if we sold him, same with JDG, he has become a Dutch international by playing for us so his value is mow going to push him toward the upper limit of what we can afford. One of signings of the season for me was Dwight Tiendalli , if there is ever an example of Laudrups scouting contacts then that is it right there, to pull him for free after the window was closed shows a real knowledge for whats out there, lo and behold this guy is also now a fully fledged Dutch international that we may miss out on . Its a very difficult business I must say
