I think we were all upset when he went to Chelsea for a significant sum having been with us from a very early age, but he learned his lesson with the time spent warming either the subs bench or just a seat in the stands. He left to go and play football and has been the consumate professional since then. Having been overlooked for England caps it has at last become clear to the powers that be what a true professional was nurtured in the Charlton ranks. I hope that he goes on to skipper the side through the European tournament
