Having lived up here for the last ten years, I must agree! Most of the SPL would struggle against the better teams in League1, whilst the Old Firm would have trouble getting out of the Championship!
League One is better than the SPL! Seriously. With Clubs like Sheff. Wed, Charlton, Sheff. Utd etc its far better minus the Old Firm. I agree with Steelmonkey, the Old firm would struggle to get up out of the CCC and would seriously struggle in the Prem. For f*cks sake, Ireland's part-timers, Sh Rovers drew with Partisan Belgrade tonight which is a better result than the Old Firmers got!
You're right Swords - you only have to look at the attendances some of the bigger clubs in League One get compared to the attendances at most SPL grounds on a Saturday - they normally average gates of around 8-10K (unless the Old Firm are playing). Tonights mauling of Hearts should be the big wake-up call the SFA and SPL have needed for years, but until the Old Firm move on, or the leagues are restructured, nothing will change.

I'm a Rangers fan and won't disagree with this, we've been watching a poor standard of football for years now
Yes it is, but still would not miss my annual lads trip to Edinburgh to catch a Hibs match. The time in Easter Road is the only rest my liver gets and the best chance of sleep for the whole weekend.....
Fair play mate. My old man is a Gers fan (behind QPR of course). In fairness to Rangers, I think yee have done really well the last few years winning the title 3 years running with whats arguably a more limited bunch of players than Celtic.
**** me, what brought this thread on Norf? Apples and oranges... I'm a closet Caley fan. Visit my mate outside Inverness on a reg. and when I do, I like nothing more than a trip down to Longman Drive to watch the Caley. Problem is, owing to the need for ground improvements, their first season in the SPL was spent playing 'home' games 100 miles away at Aberdeen. Consequently they're a better away side and I rarely get to see them win at home! Whilst there's little comparison with the English leagues, Scottish football must be taken in context and I love it. An honest to goodness game of football as often as not. Apart from the Glasgow stranglehold and the sectarian bollocks that comes with it, what I don't like is the 4 games a season against opposing teams. Look at the old firm last year, seven derby games was it? Gets boring. Should be two proper 20 team divisions like it used to be. If we can't find a system for bringing British - and Irish - football into a league competition that doesn't involve the time and money costs of incessant travel, then long live Scottish football!
Refreshing to hear that from a Dubliner Swords! Your dad obviously loves the name 'Rangers' - wasn't it him that introduced you to this club?!
Brix - the football is honest (most of the time!) - I go and watch Scots First Div football with my son, and it's of a level with the conference - which is the problem. Any decent players that rise through the ranks are snapped up by the Old Firm, and then stuck into the reserves, never to be heard of again. Any other decent players are tempted down to CCC, or League One in England for the extra cash, and the promise of playing on a greater stage. The clubs can't agree on how to restructure the league cos they're all too scared of losing the extra revenue they get when they play either of the Old Firm four times a season, instead of two. The only solution I think will require the Old Firm to move on (maybe a North Atlantic league that has been discussed in the past) and let the Scottish game re-flourish without them.
Ok let's keep this one going Rangers players who were Scots......after Masson and McLintock I struggle
Can't disagree with a word you've said there SM. The Glasgows do get in the way. But the leagues grant openings for young Scots in a way young Irish fans can only dream about atm. Horses for courses I s'pose...
