IF Scott Brown decides to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club 9which he is free to do from thursday) should Celtic try to barter a fee with the signing club - say a £1 million - and let him go in January OR let him sign it but continue to be part of the title run in. Me - I'd try to get a fee and let him go as I don't believe players heads/hearts are in it - in most cases - once they decide to leave for another club.
Brown is a pro, he'd do his level best for the side as long as he is in it. That said, take the fee and reinvest it as wisely as possible at the earliest opportunity. The stumbling block is apparently the agents fee, not the contract on the table at all. The agent is in a very strong spot. We either bend to his demands, or we lose our captain for potentially nothing.
Pud it is very unlikely that Brown will sign any agreement with any other club for a good few years yet. He is happy at Celtic and more important he is playing for a manager who appreciates his true value.
Why is it unlikely? Brown has shown in the last 12 months what we thought he could bring to the side. He can look at players playing in the English championship and EPL getting better rewarded than he is. He'd be a fool not to explore it.
Not sure about that... especially if Premiership money gets waived about. Why not test yourself in the EPL whilst - no doubt - doubling your weekly wage.
If that is the case and if Celtic thought that they would have sold him a year ago. But everyone is not solely wound up about money. Even now, the wages and th esteemed held by fellow professionals for Captain of Celtic and the hope and ambition to achieve good nights and good results in Europe would compare reasonably well to grinding out results in annual relegation dog fights. I don't think any team that normally finishes in the top 3rd of the WEPL have or are likely to bid for him. Last season Brown had a fantastic season, he would have enjoyed every minute right up to the final game. I don't think he will get that at the mediocrity of the WEPL
victor n ledley must be first choice ... ki n kayal fighting for 3rd spot then forrest n commons for wide positions (or even sammy if he can continue his form)
That's a great midfield and I am sure neil Lennon would be glad to have those choice against non-combative teams like St. Mirren However there is no doubt about it when playing a way from home or against the like of Hearts Rangers or Dundee Utd Neil Lennon would prefer a grafter and a spoiler, someone who gets in amongst the opposition and makes life tough. The best Scottish player at that is Scot Brown. If you don't believe me just ask the last 3 Scottish Managers, big Tony and Neil Lennon. Between that lot there must be a football brain.
I'm not saying he's a bad player and I would prefer him to stay... he is defintely needed against Rangers. However, what I'm saying is IF he does end up leaving then we have good cover and won't ruin or team (like Naismith being injured for Rangers has ruined theirs). We have plenty of options - maybe even, when back on form, options that maybe better in some occasions
3 months ago I would have said you were wrong on that one Mick. But the emergence of Wanyama has given the midfield the bite it was lacking since Brown got injured. If he hasn't signed a new deal because of agents fees then **** him. Fair enough if Celtic weren't offering him enough wages but agent fees
I still think the team lacks something when the chips are down. Unlike quite a few others, Scott Brown never ever hides and never goes in the huff. I want him to stay.
I like Brown as a player Admiral. He always gives 100%. But this contract saga is a joke. He's the Celtic captain, the manager wants him to stay, he has said repeatedly he wants to stay. Sign the ****ing contract then. This pish about agents fees seems like smoke and mirrors to me.
Venom I think that it is the agent who is stopping him from signing. I don't he can sign against the agent's wishes. The evilness of the WEPL is that there is so much money floating around, from various sources, legal and illegal that the agents are walking away with tens or hundreds as much in deals involving WEPL than SPL. SPL signed a TV deal worth £80m, or less over 5 years. Each and every WEPL get as much in TV and sponsorship in less than two years than the entire SPL teams get in TV and Sponsorship in 5 years. We can match Scott Brown's demands, but what do we do with his agent. As far as I know I don't think the club can directly pay the agent (I may be wrong ) but Celtic cannot make a precedent and be seen to pay their inflated fees.
That sounds like an easy excuse: It's all my agents fault. I really wanted to sign for Celtic but he forced me to sign for Wolves so he could pocket an extra £250K. If Brown wanted to sign on the dotted line I'm sure his agent would be fairly powerless to actually stop him from doing so. They work for him in all essence. Like I said previously: Smoke & mirrors.
Rebelbhoy. I agree with you. Venom. It is not just as simple because the agent is employed by Brown. With his high ? demands these would leave Brown's resigning lump sum too small or maybe non existent. That's why Neil Lennon has said he is going to try to get all sides together to get a compromise all round. I am confident it will be sorted out, as N. Lennon really rates Brown and he is not going to let him go for what would not be much money for Celtic, but could be for Brown.
I just find it odd that an agent can stop someone who he works for from signing the deal. Surely the agents fee should be dictated by the length and value of any contract that Brown signs?!?!
