Thank God McLaughlin was on the bench for this inept lot.
    Kazakhstan for God's sake, shambles.

Would have been at least 2-1 Scotland had McLaughlin played. Seriously, he's a top, top pot shot shot stopper.

I've seen far worse 33/1 shots. Will they do it? Probably not. I think the prices are way out, though.

Scotland are 1/33 for the win. France are 1/10 against Moldova.

I'm always in Jockland. I'll have some fun if this comes in. Ha

My first thoughts on hearing the results were that If McLaughlin was playing, his confidence was going to be shot and that wasn't going to be good for US.

Immediately looked it up and relaxed.

He's not just a good keeper, he's a lucky one.

I think that’s a stretch mate but be some punt if it did.

These nations are slowly improving, you could look at Faroe Islands now and they are getting competitive, San Marino entered FIFA similar time.

Luxembourg another one that’s getting competitive, some great results for such a tiny place.

In my youth the England Team played three international games at the end of the Season.
This was the Home Championship against Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
England or Scotland usually emerged as victors.

And Scottish players were present in most top sides.
Some, like Dalglish, Law and Baxter were Superstars of the time.
Their Teams regularly challenged in Europe for the top honours.
Celtic were the first UK club to win the European Cup and in the Cup Winners Cup, Rangers were the beaten finalists for the first two years.

So what's gone wrong up there?
A quality player from north of the border is now a rarity.

You could ask similar questions about Austria, Hungary, and (to a lesser extent) the Netherlands, Portugal and several other countries. In part it's probably simply cyclical- some countries will rise to the top while others will fade away. You could also say that changes in society have had an impact- a lack of interest in a local club, over a more glamorous rival in a distant city, leads to a lack of investment in that local club. Over time that leads to a lowering of quality across the whole league. You can also point the finger at the control of money in football by a handful of clubs at the very top.

Clubs, like Chelsea, being able to trawl in and loan out about 30 young players doesnt help. Young players in the past were able to learn their trade in the lower leagues at any random well run club, if they did well they ended up at a top club. Now they are trawled in by the big clubs and then prostituted out all over Europe and potentially into obscurity.
