This thread was initially set up to establish a formalised ongoing syndicate. However, in view of the massive jackpot this Saturday and the time it would take to formalise a syndicate we are contemplating a less formal approach for this Saturday only. If anyone is interested in the Saturday syndicate for 17th May you can skip straight to that by clicking the red highlighted "Saturday Jackpot Only"

    Saturday Jackpot Only

Following on from Reebs' post, if it weren't for the logistics of the exercise, given the timescale, I think it would be a great idea. Maybe we could form a company, set up a watertight way of managing the money and appoint a selection jury. We could pay a regular amount into a secure account and only when the jackpot reaches the agreed amount we get the panel to select the horses and pay the £1500 from the account. For the peace of mind of all contributors there would have to be set up a way of guaranteeing their share (eg no withdrawals other than to the Scoop 6) and payments being made by declaring dividends). This is off the top of my head this morning and, if it was decided to go ahead, clearly we would need some legal advice to ensure everyone's security.

First thought is that we would nominate a jury to select the horses. Between them they would decide whether to each select 3 horses in every race or to agree on some other method. I would think that a "first team" jury of 3 would be the ideal, with a few "on the bench" in case of non availability, or in the event we had less than 3 horses selected in any race someone or ones would select additional horse(s) to make up the rest. In fairness, it would be an idea if a certain %age was deducted before any payout to reward those who put in the time and effort to select the horses.

How about trying it out today (without money) and hope it doesn't come up?

Well those in today's comp have picked 5 of the six - the Nottingham race being the exception.

That's only about 6-7 of us though, and someone would have to weed through to select the final 3 from all the selections (although to be fair some races have only attracted a couple of selections)

    Too late for today though?

I would be up for a scoop six syndicate. The hardest thing of all is selecting the horses. If everyone selects horses in every race you just end up with six favourites!

We would have to trust a selected Jury Reebs. It's the only practical way

If we would be interested in running this on a trial basis (ie no money involved) may I suggest that we would go ahead on the Selection Committee basis with the Committee being voted for. To do this I suggest that anyone who would be interested in the selection process adds their name to a list of "candidates". Once we have finalised the list we then hold a ballot. Each member can elect up to 4 names. The first name will be allocated 4 points, the second 3 the third 2 and the fourth 1. This would not be an open ballot. All votes would be PMd to me and I would count up the points. I could publish all names with the total points allocated or just the top 3, which would become the "first team panel" and also the next 3 which would be the "Bench" in order of substition.

I'd be up for it but it will need to be discussed in a bit more depth chaps.

I highly doubt that there will be 15 takers, but for what it's worth, I'll chip in too :)

And unless someone funds it completely and then tries to collect from the others, we'd need a common account that could be paid into.

Unless someone has another solution, or a better idea, I have a Lloyds account that has had £4.98 in it for the past 12 years! I set it up during my last divorce as a hedge, but never used it. I'm sure I can get it verified and updated.

But let's see what the take up rate is - may be getting a bit ahead of events here :)

See original post Reebs. But if the interest is there it will require considerable thought to set it up properly.

I'd be a paying member on a short term basis. Wouldn't want to commit to chucking a oner at it every week. Lol.
