He's a good professional, and I admire players that stick with their clubs for their whole careers and I think as long as people have respect for Gerrard and Carragher for staying with their clubs until the end then I will have respect for Giggs, Scholes and Neville for that respect.

Great player. Sadly well past it the last few seasons. So loyal and what a passer of the ball? While a sad day to see a great player retire, I'm excited by the search for his replacement.

A true United legend and a perfect role model for younger players. He will be missed.

I loved watching him spray 50 yard cross field passes to feet, his late runs into the box to score vital goals and of course his mis timed tackles.

"He scores goals Paul Scholes, He scores Goals"

Giggs might be a role model, but Scholes? <laugh>

Scholesy is a legend, he is one of the best centre midfield players to have ever played the game. He could completely run a game from midfield even into his 30's. His passing was a joy to watch, and I always enjoyed the odd hack he put on an opponent every game. A true professional and United legend.

Sad to see a great player retire but i feel it is the right time for him to go. Neville went on half a season too long. It beter to retire when the question is if not when you will announce it.

Scholes. United Legend. Will miss you.

Scholes is a fine role model. He had some poor tackles but in terms of sheer profesionalism and dedication he is second to none.

To me Scholes was more of a legend than Giggs. I completely loved the player and I don't believe in role models but if there was ever one for young footballers it is Scholes. Keeps to himself a loyal family man and never in the media spotlight. True legend and I can understand why Ferguson loved him so much. He will be missed.

A sad day for Manchester United, top player and legend at the club. Just short of world class and just behind Frank Lampard (stats to prove) but a very good player indeed. Took position of club's role model after Giggsy's private life being spectacular dragged through the gutter, you will not be able to replace this player easily or cheaply. <ok>

Absolute legend, is always sad when a great player moves on or retires, but it is far more distressing when great players don't know when to quit. Scholes has to be one of the most widely respected footballers of his generation, just look at some of the things his peers have to say about him. True Genius!

Football is not all about stats etc. Zidane, Xavi and inesta and countless other legends have stats worse than those of Lampard but I know who I would like to have in my team. Scholes is head and shoulders better than Lampard, from his one touch game, vision, play making ability and his sat nav ability to pick out a player with ease. Without a doubt Scholes is much better than Lampard and Gerrard and is one of the greats in the game. A player like Scholes receives recognition from his peers such as Xavi and Inesta and Zidane and did you know Pep, Xavi and Inesta asked him to carry on after the final and Inesta waited and missed some of his clubs celebrations to get his shirt. A true legend and please refrain from insulting Scholes by even whispering a comparison between him and Lampard because Scholes is by far the better player, it dirties Scholes's reputation to be linked to players such as Lampard.

My logic is based purely on stats based on games played, goals scored, assists, international appearances, international goals scored. Lampard has beaten Scholes in all these category's and is still playing. Of course if Paul is your choice then so be it? Stats never lie!

Lampard has also beaten Zidane and Xavi and Inesta with stats. So is Lampard better than those 3 as well. I am intrigued, don't embarrass your self now.

Stats never lie but they never tell the whole story.

I didn't say that nolhman, I said Lampard is better than Scholes and the stats back me up. What backs you up? Zidane & Xavi haven't played in the premiership so you can't use that.

Look at the CL app and average out those players stats and form a judgement then. Or look at international stats
