One thing Chelsea need to work on with Torres is to restore his spirit and morale, he's certainly lacking that. Other than that. Torres's a striker who's able to terrorise opposition defenders.
The only way Chelsea are going to get the best out of Torres is by selling Drogba and going back to their 3 man attack and the midfield 3. They are going to have to get a good pre-season out of him too.Personally I think Liverpool sold him at just about the right time,as he's lost half a yard of pace.Have Liverpool gambled on signing on Andy Carroll.Liverpool know what they need to do to get the best out of Andy Carroll, thats more straight forward. The bonus for Liverpool is that Luis Suarez has took to the premier league like a duck to water. He's done fantastically well and he hasn't got warmed up yet. He's going to take the premier league by storm.I'll tell you why,not only is he strong as an ox,and is he a bundle of energy,he's got frightening skill. I hate having to bring this up,but the way he walked past Carrick and Brown against United at Anfield was majestic.
I agree with MG - that must have been hard for you to mention! It would have been more impressive had it been Rio and Vida. Or, for that matter, had it been anyone other than Carrick and Brown! But yes, if he can replicate that form over a full season that's a pretty frightening prospect...
A half fit Fernando Torres frightened Vidic to death.Ferdinand is half the player he once was, injuries have taken their toll. Vidic can't handle raw greasy fast pace, you add pure skill to that,He's bound to get killed.Luis Suarez not only is quick,he's got quick feet.I doubt it for one minute if Suarez would have problems with Vidic. As for Ferdinand,Luis Suarez plays across the line.He infuriates defenders by playing just in front of them, and behind the full-back thus keeping himself on-side.He's clever at pulling defenders out of position.Having Andy Carroll there an imposing figure who defenders will have to keep an eye on too due to his size is a bonus. He too can occupy defenders leaving Suarez with the space to get in and around them.Suarez is a Carlos Tevez type.Vidic couldn't handle Tevez.
I think he skint a few players, and it wasn't who he done it to Swarbs, it was the game and the team, top of the league team and he ran them ragged. Fantastic performance and he will no doubt be a marked man next time Liverpool play United Even a 50% torres wona free and pen we scored from and scored 2 against Chelsea, come and get me goals if ever I saw them Torres in his first honeymoon season played above his level, it even fooled me as I knew and seen little of him before he came to Liverpool, but before or ever since he has never played like that consistantly. What is not noticed is it was the way Liverpool played in the oppositions half that seaason that helped him greatly in finding space and time for goals plus managers had to figure out how to best deal with him, which is primarily don't let him receive the ball without a tackle on him and don't let him run at you, keep him out wide, he needs to be left 1v1 as he can go past anyone with his pace. Did you see him turn Rafael, magic but the only thing he done the whole match
Players can learn to mark players with pace. They just force them wide away from the danger and gently nudge them off the ball.I've seen Vidic and Ferdinand do this to Torres on more than one occasion, but if you add skill and tenacity to that and someone that is willing to bounce straight back up and have another go,then thats harder to work out.I still believe that Vidic and Ferdinand will have a harder time with Suarez than they ever did with Torres.Suarez does all those things I mentioned,He's got quick feet,He's tenacious and if you have a go at him,he'll bounce back up and have another go.He will not let you settle. He'll annoy and torment you. When he has you flustered then he moves in for the kill. He's a busy player with bundles of energy and unbelievable skill.
What I am happy about is that Suarez can only improve and fit in more with time. Last nights performance was great, we could have had 3 more without ever going into 3rd gear in the second half. On another day that could have been a real morale destroyer for City, 7 or 8 - 0. They were awful mancini is gone gone gone this season I think, City had a ponderous Italian flow last night with lots of sideways passing, like us last seeason and early on this season.
Bringbackfootee. Can I ask you a question? Is the strikers hunting back into midfield and winning posession a Kenny trait. Having watched all the DVD's of Liverpool in the 80s,notably the 87-88 season, they did that.Barnes was supposeably a winger and popped up all over the place and used to win possesion centrally in the midfield area and venture forward.Beardsley and Aldridge did it too. They hunted deep and then pounced. It was Beardsley,Barnes,Aldridge and Houghton that did it.Last night,it was Suarez,Carroll,Kuyt and Mereiles. Is this something that Kenny has tried to introduce?
